I have posted a few songs from “Anand” (1970). In this movie, every song, not just the better known ones, are gems. And that is only to be expected seeing that Salil Chaudhary is the music director of this movie.
Here is one of the “lesser” known songs of this movie. It may be lesser known in popularity, but not so in quality. This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Sumita Sanyal. Yogesh is the lyricist.
This song is based on a lesser known Raag called Raag Malgunji. To create a Raag based song and still ensure that the song appeals to lay public- it i quite a feat and one cannot raise Salil Chaudhary high enough for this superbly crafted song. It is a gem of a song.

This is actually among Lata’s best. I was going to farmaish it but now it has appeared.
Notice the pallav. It changes sides. I think Raja once talked about this in Memsaab’s blog–about directors wanting the pallav to accidently drop. Well here in the next take, the poor actress was probably so distressed she gets the pallav ulta.

actually during the song she is looking in the mirror thats y the Pallav changes sides. i will not accept that Hrishikesh Mukherjee will commit such blunders

This song is written by Gulzar and not Yogesh. Yogesh had written two songs for this film- Kahin door jab and Zindagi kaisi hai paheli. The lyricist for other tow song was Gulzar. It has been know to me since many years.
