Main jab bhi akeli hoti hoon
Posted on: August 21, 2010
I have received several farmaishes for songs of “Dharmputra” (1961) which was a somewhat “different” movie vis a vis the mainstream movies of those days.
Here is a lovely song from this movie which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Mala Sinha and Rehman. This is a nostalgic song where Mala Sinha recalls the days when she would surreptitiously get to meet Rehman as used to be the norm those days where Boys and girls were not allowed to mix and the girl was supposed to stay behind veils (hizaab) and curtains (chilman).
Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist who has written this song and N Datta is the music director.
It is a wonderful song to listen to, though personally I have listened to this song for the first time only today.

Song-Main jab bhi akeli hoti hoon (Dharmputra) (1961) Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-N Datta
Lyrics
main jab bhi akeli hoti hoon,
main jab bhi akeli hoti hoon,
tum chupke se aa jaate ho
aur jhaank ke meri aankhon mein,
beete din yaad dilaate ho
beete din yaad dilaate ho
mastaanaa hawaa ke jhonkon se
har baar wo parde kaa hilnaa
parde ko pakadne ki dhun mein
do ajnabi haathon kaa milnaa
aankhon mein dhuaan saa chhaa jaanaa
aankhon mein dhuaan saa chhaa jaanaa
saanson mein sitaare se khilnaa
beete din yaad dilaate ho,
beete din yaad dilaate ho
mud-mud ke tumhaaraa raste mein
taknaa wo mujhe jaate-jaate
aur meraa thithak kar ruk jaanaa
chilman ke qareeb aate-aate
nazron kaa taras kar rah jaanaa
nazron kaa taras kar rah jaanaa
ek aur jhalak paate-paate
beete din yaad dilaate ho,
beete din yaad dilaate ho
baalon ko sukhaane kei khaatir
kothe pe wo meraa aa jaanaa
aur tumko muqaabil paate hi
kuchh sharmaanaa kuchh bal khaanaa
hamsaayon ke dar se katraanaa,
hamsaayon ke dar se katraanaa,
ghar waalon ke dar se ghabraanaa
beete din yaad dilaate ho,
beete din yaad dilaate ho
barsaat ke bheege mausam mein,
barsaat ke bheege mausam mein,
sardi ki thitharti raaton mein
pahron wo yoon hi baithe rahnaa
haathon ko pakadkar haathon mein
aur lambi lambi ghadiyon kaa
aur lambi lambi ghadiyon kaa
kat jaanaa baaton baaton mein
beete din yaad dilaate ho,
beete din yaad dilaate ho
ro-ro ke tumhen khat likhti hoon
ro-ro ke tumhen khat likhti hoon
aur khud padhkar ro leti hoon
haalaat ke tapte toofaan mein
jazbaat ki kashti kheti hoon
kaise ho kahaan ho
kuchh to kaho,
kaise ho kahaan ho
kuchh to kaho,
main tum ko sadaayen deti hoon
main jab bhi akeli hoti hoon
main jab bhi akeli hoti hoon,
tum chupke se aa jaate ho
aur jhaank ke meri aankhon mein,
beete din yaad dilaate ho
beete din yaad dilaate ho

I am of the opinion that had there been no Sahir, Shailendra, Shakeel, Majrooh and Rajinder Krishan the Hindi film songs of the past would not have been so rich and popular.
Sahir was a great poet and really a word-smith. Only he could have penned
“haalat ke tapate toofaan me, zazbaat ki kasti kheti hoon…”

oh what a wonderful song. saw the video for the first time today. i always thought that this song Mala Sinha sang longing for Rajendra Kumar. coz i remember seeing the college function song from this movie “Tere Pyar Ka Asara Chahata Hoon” and i also know that later on Rajendra Kumar marries Nanda and there is a lovely boat song pictured on Nanda and Rajendra Kumar. or am i a case of mixing up too many old movies. the knowledgeable people in our blog world please help

Peeveesie’s mom, it looks like you are confusing Dhool Ka Phool with Dharmputra! Don’t worry, this is what happens after an overdose of old movies and old songs!
