Chale jaanaa zaraa thahro

Posted on: September 13, 2010

In Hindi movies we often seen family album masquerading as a movie (viz the movie “Kal Aaj Aur Kal”), or a wedding album masquerading as a movie (” Hum Apke Hai Kaun”). Likewise they was a world tour album that masqueraded as a Hindi movie. This movie was called “Around the world in eight days”, which was shortened to “Around the world”.

In this movie Raj Kapoor and Rajshree would go on a world tour and like respectably Indian lead actors, sing songs at every opportunity.

Here Raj Kapoor and Rajshree are shown enjoying themselves on water on various kinds of boats.

It is interesting to see how Hasrat Jaipuri has tried the express the western experiences (that have no Indian equivalents) using Urdu words derived from Desi experiences.

Mukesh and Sharda (the latter being Shankar’s new found love, whom he was promoting heavily) sing this song. Shankar Jaikishan composed the music.

The song is a hummable song, undoubtedly.

This song has two versions and that makes it a multiple version song.

Video – Part I (Duet version)

Audio – Part II (Solo Sharda version)

song-Chale jaanaa zaraa thahro (Around the world) (1967) Singers-Mukesh, Sharda, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri,MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

chale jaanaa zaraa thahro
kisi kaa dam nikaltaa hai
ye manzar dekhkar jaanaa
chale jaanaa zaraa thahro
kisi kaa dam nikaltaa hai
ye manzar dekhkar jaanaa
chale jaanaa zaraa thahro
kisi kaa dam nikaltaa hai
ye manzar dekhkar jaanaa
chale jaanaa

abhi aaye ho baitho to
ye mausam bhi suhaanaa hai
abhi aaye ho baitho to
ye mausam bhi suhaanaa hai
abhi to haal-e-dil tumko
nigaahon se sunaanaa hai
nazar pyaasi ye dil pyaasaa
kisi kaa dam nikaltaa hai
ye manzar dekhkar jaanaa
chale jaanaa

haseen jharnon ke saaye mein
akelaa chhod jaate ho
haseen jharnon ke saaye mein
akelaa chhod jaate ho
hamaare dil ko aakhir kis liye
tum tod jaate ho
zaraa dam lo kahaa maano
kisi kaa dam nikaltaa hai
ye manzar dekhkar jaanaa
chale jaanaa

hamaari jaan ho tum bhi
agar chal din to phir kyaa hai
hamaari jaan ho tum bhi
agar chal din to phir kyaa hai
tumhaare bin bahaaron mein
khushi kyaa hai mazaa kyaa hai
o jaan-e-man na jaao tum
kisi kaa dam nikaltaa hai
ye manzar dekhkar jaanaa
chale jaanaa

qasam khaati hoon main apni
tumhen ab naa sataaungi
qasam khaati hoon main apni
tumhen ab naa sataaungi
tumhaari baat jo bhi ho
wahi main maan jaaungi
bhari aankhen jhuki paaten(?)
kisi kaa dam nikaltaa hai
ye manzar dekhkar jaanaa
chale jaanaa zaraa thahro
kisi kaa dam nikaltaa hai
ye manzar dekhkar jaanaa
chale jaanaa zaraa thahro
kisi kaa dam nikaltaa hai
ye manzar dekhkar jaanaa
chale jaanaa

This song was also in the Mukesh book that I had a boy. 🙂

This is the first song of this movie that you are posting? The songs in the movie are quite nice though the movie was not all that great IMO.

The title song has lots of names of places, as you would expect. New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Hollywood…

Must have been quite a big-budget movie if they shot on location.
