Ek but banaaungaa teraa aur poojaa karoongaa

Posted on: October 3, 2010

When I got the farmaish for this song “Ek but banaaungaa” from “Asli Naqli” (1962) and played this song, I thought I was going to listen to the song “ek but banaaungaa tere ghar ke saamne”, but I found myself listening to a different song, viz “ek but banaaungaa teraa aur poojaa karoongaa”.

It was then that I realised that I was confusing this song with the title song of “Tere Ghar Ke Saamne”(1963). In fact, the title song of “Tere Ghar Ke Saamne” begins with “Ek ghar banaaungaa tere ghar ke saamne”, but in my absent mindedness, I thought that the song began “Ek but bannaungaa tere ghar ke saamne”. Now my confusion gets cleared once and for all, I hope. There is only one song called “ek but banaaungaa” and that is from “Asli Naqli” (1962).

The song “Ek but banaaungaa” is picturised on Dev Anand and Sadhana. I find the picturisation incredibly romantic and sensuous. It is raining outside and Dev Anand and Sadhana find themselves holed up together in a room. Dev Anand wants to express his love for her, but is hesitant. He tries to utter the magic words, but does not know how to say it and instead ends up asking Sadhana- “Did you say something ?”. Sadhana, who responds in negative is also waiting for Dev Anand to pop the question. Seeing his hesitancy, she too tries to hlp his cause but she too ends up asking Dev Anand- “Did you day something?”. Seeing that both are in the same boat, the ice finally gets broken with Dev Anand bursting into this song. In this song, Dev Saab proposes to Sadhana in the grandiose way that had become the coomon way in Hindi movies. The hero, instead to simply saying “I love you” would go to elaborate lengths and would use flowery and grandiloquent round about ways of expressing his love for the lady. Here Dev Saab basically says that he would make an idol of her and pray before that idol daily. Such beating about the bush instead of coming to the point is what this song is all about. 😀

The song is sung by Rafi and it is picturised on Dev Anand and Sadhana.Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

So here is this uniquely Hindi movie style “expression of love” song from “Asli Naqli” (1962).

Song-Ek but banaaungaa aur poojaa karoongaa (Asli Naqli) (1962) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

ek but banaaungaa teraa aur poojaa karoongaa
ek but banaaungaa teraa aur poojaa karoongaa
ek but banaaungaa teraa aur poojaa karoongaa
arre mar jaaungaa pyaar agar main doojaa karoongaa
arre mar jaaungaa pyaar agar main doojaa karoongaa
ek but banaaungaa teraa aur poojaa karoongaa
ek but banaaungaa teraa aur poojaa karoongaa
arre mar jaaungaa pyaar agar main doojaa karoongaa

roop ki chaandi pyaar kaa sonaa prem-nagar se laa ke
teri sundar chhavi banegi donon cheez milaa ke
roop ki chaandi pyaar kaa sonaa prem-nagar se laa ke
teri sundar chhavi banegi donon cheez milaa ke
rang wafaa kaa main teri moorat mein bharoongaa
arre mar jaaungaa pyaar agar main doojaa karoongaa
arre mar jaaungaa pyaar agar main doojaa karoongaa

man-mandir mein tujhko bithaake roz karoongaa baaten
shaam-sawere har mausam mein hongi mulaakaaten
man-mandir mein tujhko bithaake roz karoongaa baaten
shaam-sawere har mausam mein hongi mulaakaaten
dil kaa haal kahoongaa tujhse main naa daroongaa
arre mar jaaungaa pyaar agar main doojaa karoongaa
arre mar jaaungaa pyaar agar main doojaa karoongaa

duniyaa ek ajaayabkhaanaa lekin phir bhi faani
iss dharti par amar rahegi meri prem-kahaani
duniyaa ek ajaayabkhaanaa lekin phir bhi faani
iss dharti par amar rahegi meri prem-kahaani
chaahe jitne roop mein aaun teraa rahoongaa
arre mar jaaungaa pyaar agar main doojaa karoongaa
arre mar jaaungaa pyaar agar main doojaa karoongaa
ek but banaaungaa teraa aur poojaa karoongaa
ek but banaaungaa teraa aur poojaa karoongaa
arre mar jaaungaa pyaar agar main doojaa karoongaa
arre mar jaaungaa pyaar agar main doojaa karoongaa
