I have not kept a count of it, but I think I have posted songs from most Shammi Kapoor movies in this blog. Considering that Shammi Kapoor came into his own in 1957 with “Tumsa Nahin Dekhaa” (1957) and continued till late 1960s with the kind of movies with he is identified, he may have worked in about 20 odd typically Shammi Kapoor movies. I have posted songs from almost all these movies, in addition to posting songs from other Shammi Kapoor movies where he played other kinds of roles.
Here is a song from a typical Shammi Kapoor movie. The movie is “Dil Tera Deeewaana” (1962). It is a fantasy song, where Shammi Kapoor, unable to express his love to Mala Sinha in person,fantasises about her where he rationalises that he would have expressed his love to her but for the fact that the lady shied away from view. But she would come back to him surely, he re-assures himself. And all this while, Mala Sinha is nearby, listening to every thing that Shammi Kapoor is fantasizing about her. How very romantic !
The song is sung by Rafi, as usual. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and Shankar Jaikishan composed the music. The song may appear a typical song on the surface, but dig deeper, and one finds that this song has that undefinable quality that makes it an outstanding song to listen to. And indeed this song is among the memorable Rafi-Shammi Kapoor songs that we so love to listen to.
