Chaand madhyam hai aasmaan chup hai

Posted on: October 27, 2010

“Railway Platform” (1955) is a movie which is now known as the debut movie of Sunil Dutt. Apart from that, this movie also has some nice songs in it, including the iconic song Basti basti parwat parwat gaataa jaaye banjaaraa

Here is a wonderful “chaayaageet” song from “Railway Platform” (1955). It is sung by Lata. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist and Madan Mohan is the music director.

The song is magical and this song is ideal to be listened at chaayaageet hours (viz late at night).

Song-Chaand madhyam hai aasmaan chup hai (Railway Platform) (1955) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-Madan Mohan

Lyrics

chaand madhyam hai
aasmaan chup hai
neend ki god mein
jahaan chup hai
chaand madhyam hai
aasmaan chup hai

door waadi mein dukhiyaa baadal
jhuk ke parbat ko pyaar karte hain
dil mein naakaam hasraten lekar
ham teraa intezaar karte hain
chaand madhyam hai
aasmaan chup hai

in bahaaron ke saaye mein aajaa
in bahaaron ke saaye mein aajaa
phir muhabbat jawaan rahe na rahe
zindagi tere naamuraadon par
kal talak meharbaan rahe na rahe
chaand madhyam hai
aasmaan chup hai

roz ki tarah, aaj bhi taare
subah ki gard mein na kho jaayen
aa tere gham mein, jaagti aankhen
kam-se-kam ek raat so jaaye
chaand madhyam hai
aasmaan chup hai

Prabably I have not heard this song before. But it is a very good song in Lata- Madan Mohan group.

Fantastic song in slow pace by Master Madan Mohan and crystal clear words of Lataji brings this song to sublime. Lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi is fantastic. Must have heard this song numerous times since 1960 and still it feels a novelty every time I listen to it again and again. This was the magic of yester year songs whci modern songs lack.

Prakashchandra ji,

The audio of the song ‘chaand madhyam hai’ from ‘Railway Plarform’ (1955) has been mixed with the video of the song ‘kaare badra tu na jaa na jaa’ from ‘Shikast’ (1952) with some superimposition of scenes of moon.

The song is very very sweet.
It is one of the best songs Hindi Film industry.Though there is another song Basti Basti Parbat Parbat, in the film, earlier is matchless.
But unfortunately, the song was deleted from the film. Was it director’s fault, or capacity?

I was looking for this song on the web and your listing showed. The word in the refrain is maddham (मद्धम), meaning faint, fading etc, not madhyam.
