Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Kajre badarwaa re

Posted on: November 19, 2010

I was neither aware of this movie called “Pati Patni” (1966) nor of this song from this movie. Now I have come to know that this was a movie starring Nanda, Sanjeev Kumar, Mehmood, Om Prakash etc.

More importantly, I have also come to know that this movie has some wonderful songs in it.

Being ignorant of such fine songs is not bliss. One needs to be aware of songs like the ones in this movie.

Here is a song from this movie. It is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Nanda. This song is written by Anand Bakshi and music is composed by R D Burman. Yes, this was one of the first movies of R D Burman as an independent music director and in this movie he shows us the potential that he soon realised in the movies to come.

Song-Kajre badarwaa re (Pati Patni) (1966) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics

kajre badarwaa re,
kajre badarwaa re,
marzi teri hai kyaa zaalimaa
aise na baras zulmi,
kah na doon kisiko main baalmaa
kajre badarwaa

kahin gir jaaye na bindiyaa,
kahin ud jaaye na nindiyaa
ho o
kahin gir jaaye na bindiyaa,
kahin ud jaaye na nindiyaa
kaali kaali
aane waali
kaali kaali aane waali
barkhaa ki raat hai
kajre badrwaa

rimjhim waali
chunariyaa
odhe huye aayi badariyaa
ho
rimjhim waali
chunariyaa
odhe huye aayi badariyaa
jhoomen aise,
gori jaise
jhoomen aise, gori jaise
sajnaa ke saath mein
kajre badarwaa

is bheegi-bheegi hawaa ne
kaanon mein kahaa kyaa na jaane
ho o
is bheegi-bheegi hawaa ne
kaanon mein kahaa kyaa na jaane
main sharmaayi,
main ghabraayi
main sharmaayi, main ghabraayi
aisi koyi baat hai
kajre badarwaa

RD started his carrer with Chhote Nawaab in 1963 when he was hardly 24yrs. and at that age giving ‘Ghar Aaja Ghir Aaye Badarva’ is an achievement in itself.
Aftre 3 yrs. ,astonishingly, he got work in again tn Mehmood’s(Choote Nawab also belonged to him) and starters like Firoze Khan-Kalpana(of Professor fame) starred ‘Teesra Kaun’.
The turning point for him ,not to look back, was Vijay Anand’s “Teesri Manzil” in 1966.
This song in 1966 itself, speaks volume of the talent he got in inheritance.
This is one of finest composition from him.

After “Chhote Nawaab” (1963), R D Burman surprisingly did not get any more offers and he cooled his heels for a couple of years before he again got offers from Mehmood (Bhoot Bangla) and it was then that R D Burman began to get assignments as an independent music director.
