Tootegi na pyaar ki dor

It is noticed that stories of Hindi movies of early days used to be far more progressive and open minded than the movies that came up in later decades. For example, leading ladies refusing to wear swimming costumes on the plea of this being against Indian culture was a phenomenon of 1970s. In 1940s and 1950s, leading ladies would be shown diving in water not only while wearing sari, but in more swimming friendly costumes too.
Here is a song from “Ambar” (1952) where we find Nargis, wearing a dress that is more like what Tarzan’s Jane would wear. The only concession to Bhartiya naarihood is that she bursts into a song instead of swinging from trees branches. she sings a song and then she dives into the nearest available pond. Raj Kapoor and his sidekick Agha are shown playing on their fiddles. Nargis takes a dive and apparently vanishes into the depth of the water, only to appear behind Raj Kapoor and Agha. Raj Kapoor, fearing that she may need to be rescued, divesinto water to rescue her. Finding his struggle, Nargis dives into water and rescues the potential rescuer.
Coming to the song itself, the song is sung by Lata. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ghulam Mohammad. Here is this nice song from “Ambar” (1952) that goes-“tootegi na pyaar ki dor duniyaa chaahe lagaa le zor”.
Song-Tootegi na pyaar ki dor (Ambar) (1952) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Ghulam Mohammad
Lyrics
Tootegi na pyaar ki dor
duniyaa chaahe lagaa le zor
dil ki baat bataaun baalam
dil ki baat bataaun
main dil ki baat bataaun
tootegi na pyaar ki dor
duniyaa chaahe lagaa le zor
dil ki baat bataaun baalam
dil ki baat bataaun
main dil ki baat bataaun
teri muhobbat meri jawaani
teri muhobbat meri jawaani
mil-mil ke chhalkaaye masti
ho jag-mag hai dharti kaa aanchal
ho jag-mag hai dharti kaa aanchal
jhil-mil hai aakaash ki basti
ho aakaash ki basti
tu hai chandaa main hoon chakor
manzil apni gagan ki or
tere paas main aaun baalam dil ki baat bataaun
main dil ki baat bataaun
jhoom rahi hain mast umangen
jhoom rahi hain mast umangen
dil ko milaa hai dil kaa sahaaraa
ho tu deewaanaa main hoon deewaani
ho tu deewaanaa main hoon deewaani
koi na jaane bhed hamaaraa
ho bhed hamaaraa
tu hai mere man kaa mor
sun le mere dil ke chor
jeewan tujh pe lutaaun baalam dil ki baat bataaun
main dil ki baat bataaun
tootegi na pyaar ki dor
duniyaa chaahe lagaa le zor
dil ki baat bataaun baalam
main dil ki baat bataaun
