I am a big fan of Ravi. He is perhaps the only music director who was around when the golden era of Hindi movie music began to the time this era was finally gone for ever. His career began as a chorus singer in late 1940s,then he became assistant to Hemant Kumar (he was his assistant in “Naagin” (1954)) and then he became an independent music director with “Vachan” (1955). From then on till 1980s, he composed songs, many of which became so popular that they ended up becoming iconic songs. I in fact describe Ravi as a composer of iconic songs.
I have discussed as many as five songs from his debut movie ‘Vachan” (1955) which included his first iconic song Chanda mama door ke which remains a favourite song of Indian mothers and their young one’s even today.
Here is another song from “Vachan” (1955). This song shows a pair of young girls giving a dance performance of stage, whereas a sad Geeta Bali is shown singing this song elsewhere (at her home).
The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Prem Dhawan wrote this song.
