Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Ham dard ke maaron kaa itna hi fasaanaa hai

Posted on: December 6, 2010

When Dilip Kumar began his career as a lead actor in Hindi movies, Talat Mehmood gave playback for him. It was from mid 1950s onwards that Rafi became his (and for that matter every one’s) voice.

Here is a song from “Daag” (1952). This is a sad song sung by Talat Mehmood and picturised on Dilip Kumar. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and Shankar Jaikishan composed the music.

Shankar Jaikishan, who made great use of Mukesh and subsequently Rafi in their compositions, show in this song that they could make good use of Talat Mehmood’s voice as well.

Song-Ham dard ke maaron kaa (Daag) (1952) Singer-Talat Mehmood, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri,MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

bujh gaye gham ki hawaa se,
pyaar ke jalte charaag
bewafaayi chaand ne ki,
pad gayaa ismein bhi daag

ham dard ke maaron kaa,
itnaa hi fasaanaa hai
peene ko sharaab-e-gham,
dil gam kaa nishaanaa hai
ham dard ke maaron kaa,
itnaa hi fasaanaa hai

dil ek khilaunaa hai,
taqdeer ke haathon mein
dil ek khilaunaa hai,
taqdeer ke haathon mein
taqdeer ke haathon mein
marne ki tamannaa hai,
jeene kaa bahaanaa hai
peene ko sharaab-e-gham,
dil gam kaa nishaanaa hai

dete hain duaayen ham
dete hain duaayen ham
duniyaa ki jafaaon ko
duniyaa ki jafaaon ko
kyun unko bhulaayen ham,
ab khud ko bhulaanaa hai
peene ko sharaab-e-gham,
dil gham kaa nishaanaa hai

hans hans ke bahaaren to,
shabnam ko rulaati hain
hans hans ke bahaaren to,
shabnam ko rulaati hain
shabnam ko rulaati hain
aaj apni muhabbat par,
dariyaa ko rulaanaa hai
aaj apni muhabbat par,
dariyaa ko rulaanaa hai
ham dard ke maaron kaa,
itnaa hi fasaanaa hai
peene ko sharaab-e-gham,
dil gam kaa nishaanaa hai
