Le chal wahaan piyaa jahaan tera mere jiyaa

Sajjad Hussain, regarded as the only original music director of Hindi movies, was a temperamental genius who would brook no interference in his creative work and leave movies in a huff if he felt that his producers were interfering in his work. As a result, there are several movies where he composed one or two songs before he would leave the movie.
In addition, many of the songs composed by him (especially those composed in 1940s) are very difficult to come by. These movie as well as their songs have been lost which is a big loss to music lovers. There could well be about 20-30 such Sajjad Hussain compositions of 1940s which have been lost. I hope that somehow a few of these songs will surface.
“Sangdil” (1952) was one of the few movies where Sajjad Hussain found the working conditions upto his satisfaction and he actually composed all the songs of this movie without having to walk out of the movie. Moreover, the video of this movie is available too, so music lovers are fortunate to be able to listen to as many as six Sajjad Hussain compositions from this movie. I have in fact discussed all the six songs from this movie already.
I recently found out that this movie had another (seventh) song which was excluded from the movie and as a result this song does not figure in the movie. And appraently the audio records of this song were also not available with many music lovers. Radio Ceylon (later Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation) is one of the few, if not the only, place that have the record of this song available. They keep broadcasting this song and on one of these occasions, one music lover has recorded this song and uploaded it on internet. So we are lucky to listen to this extremely rare Sajjad Hussain composition from “Sangdil” (1952).
Here is this rare to find Sajjad Hussain composition from “Sangdil” (1952) that was excluded from the movie. This song is sung by Shamshad Begam. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist.
This song is a special song for this blog in another sense. This is the 100th song of Shamshad Begam to be discussed in this blog. And that way, Shamshad Begam takes her well deserved place among the musical legends who have completed their own centuries in this blog.
So here is this very special song from “Sangdil” (1952).
Song-Le chal wahaan piyaa jahaan tera mere jiyaa (Sangdil) (1952) Singer-Shamshad Begam, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Sajjad Hussain
Lyrics
le chal wahaan piyaa
jahaan tera mera jiyaa
mil mil ke hanse
hans hans ke milen
na main tujhse judaa
na tu mujhse judaa
ek saath rahen
kali dil ki khile
le chal wahaan piyaa
jahaan tera mera jiyaa
mil mil ke hanse
hans hans ke milen
o o o
o o o
o o o
o o o
kabhi gale se lagaaun tujhe main
kabhi baahon mein uthaaye mujhe tu
kabhi gale se lagaaun tujhe main
kabhi baahon mein uthaaye mujhe tu
meri chaahat ho tere ankhiyan mein
mera tan-man mein teri ho khushboo
tum khud hamse
aapas mein kabhi shiqwa na gilaa
le chal wahaan piyaa
jahaan tera mera jiyaa
mil mil ke hanse
hans hans ke milen
tum bhi hamaare bano
ham bhi tumhaare banen
aankh ishaara karen
dil ke sahaare banen
tum bhi hamaare bano
ham bhi tumhaare banen
aankh ishaara karen
dil ke sahaare banen
din raat jawaan
aisa ho samaa
phir khoob milen
ulfat ke sile
le chal wahaan piyaa
jahaan tera mera jiyaa
mil mil ke hanse
hans hans ke milen
na main tujhse judaa
na tu mujhse judaa
ek saath rahen
kali dil ki khile

There was an eighth song also which was in the voice of Asha Bhonsley.
Dard bhari kisi ki yad dil main laga rahi hai aag
I have already posted this song on You-tube along with an excellent recording of ‘Le chal wahan piya. You can hear the introductory music of Dard bhari kisi ki yad in the film just before the scene where Dalip Kumar falls from the horse.
