“Mehboob Ki Mehandi” (1971) is a movie starring Rajesh Khanna and Leena Chandawarkar. This Muslim social movie had some wonderful songs in it, which remain popular to this day.
I have already discussed five songs from this movie. But there are still a few nice songs that are yet to be discussed.
Here is a delightful song from this movie. Rajesh Khanna is “fida” over Leena Chandawarkar who works as a tutor to his young nephew. He is taking her photographs with his ungainly looking camera (we did not have handycams those days) when his nephew catches him in the act. His nephew enquires Rajesh Khanna about what he was doing. Rajesh Khanna says that he is taking the pictures of his beloved. What a “kaafir” my beloved is-Rajesh Khanna exclaims. You called my teacher a “kaafir”, I will go and tell the grandpa, the kid threatens. Rajesh Khanna stops him from going and complianing to the grandpa, and comes up with this song, where he pores his heart about how he has fallen head over heels in love with Leena Chandawarkar.
This song is sung by Rafi with gusto. Anand Bakshi has come up with some wonderful lyrics. Laxmikant Pyarelal have composed the music.
