With Hindi movie songs of the golden era, finding unknown gems in easy. Just look at the songs of any forgotten movie or look for less popular songs from better known movies. And more often than not, one will come up with a good collection of great unknown songs on a regular basis.
Here is a gem from an obscure movie called “Prem Patra” (1962). This song is a duet sung by Talat Mehmood and Lata. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and music is composed by Salil Chaudhary. with such legends involved in creating this song, how can this song not be a wonderful song ? And indeed this song lives upto the high standards expected from these maestroes.
This song has Shashi Kapoor and Sadhana in lead roles so one can safely assume that this duet is picturised on them. It is news for me that Shashi Kapoor acted opposite Sadhana in a movie. I am more used to seeing Shashi Kapoor acting opposite Nanda for much of 1960s. And the name of the hero also explains why this movie is so obscure. 😀

Song-Ye mere andhere ujaale na hote (Prem Patra) (1962) Singers-Talat Mehmood, Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Salil Chaudhary
Lyrics
ye mere andhere ujaale na hote
agar tum na aate meri zindagi mein
ye mere andhere ujaale na hote
agar tum na aate meri zindagi mein
na jaane meraa dil ye kyun kah rahaa hai
tumhen kho na baithoon kahin roshni mein
na jaane meraa dil ye kyun kah rahaa hai
tumhen kho na baithoon kahin roshni mein
meri aankh ne tum ko dekhaa nahin hai
magar dil to meraa tumhen jaantaa hai
meri aankh ne tum ko dekhaa nahin hai
magar dil to meraa tumhen jaantaa hai
tumhen jaantaa hai
to gham ke safar mein meraa hamsafar hai
main kyun saath us kaa na doongaa khushi mein
ye mere andhere ujaale na hote
agar tum na aate meri zindagi mein
tumhaari muhabbat pe mujh ko yaqeen hai
magar apni qismat pe hargiz nahi hai
tumhaari muhabbat pe mujh ko yaqeen hai
magar apni qismat pe hargiz nahi hai
hargiz nahin hai
muhabbat ke kuchh khel aankhon ne meri
bigadte bhi dekhe hansi hi hansi mein
na jaane meraa dil ye kyun kah rahaa hai
tumhen kho na baithoon kahin roshni mein
abhi to ummeedon ki duniyaa jawaan hai
na chhedo ye maayoosiyon ke taraane
tumhen bhi qasam hai ki dil mein na rakhnaa
khataa ho gayi ho agar bekhudi mein
agar bekhudi mein
ye mere andhere ujaale na hote
agar tum na aate meri zindagi mein
na jaane meraa dil ye kyun kah rahaa hai
tumhen kho na baithoon kahin roshni mein
ye mere andhere ujaale na hote
agar tum na aate meri zindagi mein

Good find! The film itself is uneven, as I recall, but with some lovely moments, including the songs.
I can’t recall Shashi and Sadhana in any other films together except Waqt, and of course they are not a couple in that one.

Yes, most reviews suggest that the story of this movie was no great shakes. Perhaps songs were the saving grace of his movie.
