By now, most music lovers who are a regular of this blog must have come to the same conclusion about Chitragupta as I have concluded- that he was a grossly underrated and underutilised music director. Most of his music was given in B movies which did not catch the attention of mainstream movie goers. But what music these movies had !
In those days of scarce opportunities and resources, many of his songs may not have received the attention that they deserved, but now, thanks to internet and music lovers willing to share such timeless music with likeminded music lovers, we are in a position to discover and savour many forgotten gems from the past.
Here is a song from “Patang” (1960). It is a boat song picturised on Rajinder Kumar and Mala Sinha. the song is a duet sung by Mukesh and Lata. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist and music, as discussed earlier, is composed by Chitragupta.
