Naam teraa hai zabaan par…jaanewaale ab to aajaa
Posted on: February 24, 2011
When I was growing up as a kid in late 1960s and early 1970s, I noticed that old movie makers tended to give their movies the same title as the titles of new movies. 🙂 When radio announcer announced songs from “Andaaz”, “Aankhen”,”Aarzoo”,”Adaalat”, “Parwarish” etc, I expected to listen to songs from the newer movies of 1960s and 1970s and I was very upset when the songs played were from old movies of 1940s and 1950s, which were boring by my definition.
When it came to “Daastaan”, I recognised “Daastaan” (1972) and I was disappointed when I got to listen to “boring” songs from “Daastaan” (1950) instead of from “Daastaan” (1972).
That was 1970s. Now, some four decades later, when I look at the list of songs in this blog, I am surprised to note that I have discussed as many as four songs from “Daastaan” (1950) and none from “Daastaan” (1972) ! And similar is the case with the above mentioned movies where I have more songs from older movies, vis a vis newer movies with the same titles. How tastes have changed !
Here is the fifth song from “Daastaan” (1950) in this blog. It is sung by Suraiyya and it is picturised on herself. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naushad.

Song-Naam tera hai zabaan par…jaanewaale ab to aa jaa (Daastaan) (1950) Singer-Suraiyya, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad
Lyrics
ho ho ho ho
ho ho ho ho
naam teraa hai zabaan par
yaad teri dil mein hai
jaanewaale ab to aa jaa
zindagi mushqil mein hai
zindagi mushqil mein hai
naam teraa hai zabaan par
yaad teri dil mein hai
jaanewaale ab to aa jaa
zindagi mushqil mein hai
zindagi mushqil mein hai
dil kaa jo anjaam honaa thaa
wahi aakhir huaa
chaand armaanon kaa mere
badliyon mein chhup gayaa
chhup gayaa
ab andheraa hi andheraa
pyaar ki mehfil mein hai
jaanewaale ab to aa jaa
zindagi mushqil mein hai
zindagi mushqil mein hai
rah gayi
rah gayi
fariyaad ban kar
fariyaad ban kar
wo khushi ki daastaan
wo khushi ki daastaan
tere gham ko dil mein le kar
ham to baithe hain yahaan
hain yahaan
dil ke maalik tu na jaane
kaun si manzil mein hai
jaanewaale ab to aa jaa
zindagi mushqil mein hai
zindagi mushqil mein hai

Suraiya was very talented singer but remain unexplored.
She never had any formal training in Hindustani Classical music ,yet she gave us some meomerable songs to enjoy and hum.
Khursheed Anwar, known Composer of that time, once told in one of his interviews then that Suraiya is just like a blotting paper in absorbing the ‘notes’ when tought.

Atul ji,
Minor correction; the tags line at the bottom contains 1972; it should be 1950.
Appears you are missing the 1972 Dastaan very much :).
