Mera dil tadpaa kar kahaan chalaa

“Shabnam” (1949) is a movie that starred Kamini Kaushal and Dilip Kumar. This movie apparently was a box office success. And the music of this movie must have played a big role in the success of the movie.
I have discussed three songs from this movie in the past. And these three songs have been nice songs from different genre. Here is another song from yet another category.And like the other songs from this movie, this song too is wonderful to listen to, and watch.
This song in fact is in two parts. Part I is sung by Geeta Dutt and it is picturised on Kamini Kaushal and Dilip Kumar. In Hindi movies, it is the male who is generally seen a song professing his love for the lady. Here it is the other way round. Here it is the lady who is singing a song expressing his love for the man and is asking him why he is leaving her after she has fallen for him.
Part II of the song has almost the same lyrics, but with a change. This time, Kamini Kaushal apparently has lost her memory of the earlier happenings. The same song, this time sung by Shamshad Begam (and lip synced by Cuckoo, I guess) jogs Kamini Kaushal’s brain, and she recalls the song, as the song is drawing to a close, and she too joins in singing the song towards the end (in Geeta Dutt’s voice). I guess that this is one of the first instances in Hindi movie, where the formula of singing the same song twice (or more) was used as a cure for amnesia. 🙂
The song (both versions) is wonderful to listen to. It is written by Qamar Jalalabadi. Music is composed by S D Burman.
I am not sure about some of the actors shown in part II of the song. I request my knowledgeable readers to help identify those actors.
