Here is a wonderful romantic duet from the past which is easily one of the timeless classics from the golden era of Hindi movie music. Listening to this song magically transports us back to the era half a century ago, when melody was king, lyrics were given their due and songs were created like monuments , not like disposal cans.
Listening to this song is like splashing in champagne. Rafi and Asha Bhonsle sound at their most divine. Raja Mehdi Ali Khan’s lyrics have gone on to become immortal. Music of O P Nayyar is soothing and intoxicating, both at the same time. A true masterclass indeed.
This song is picturised on Joy Mukherjee and Sadhana. I have provided an audio link since I was not able to locate a video link. And that is all that one needs to savour this song.
PS-The reason why I have not been able to locate a video link is that this song was deleted from the movie and only its audio is available. So this song joins the rank of those great songs that were omitted from the movie. Oh well !

Nayyar saab use to say the he was not having any knowledge of classical raags, but surprisigly his many songs are based on raagas.like
this particular song is based on raag Kirwani. There are 3 more songsbased on raag Kedar, from the same movie.This is nothing but
God’s Gift.

Most of the songs on Tonga Beats like this one is used mostly by composers Naushad and O P Nayyar. All of them are very melodious.

This song may have been excluded from the film, but was picturised. I have seen the song on”Chaaya Geet” on Bombay Doordarshan. There is no video available on youtube. But if has to exist somewhere, if only in the Doordarshan archives. I have not seen the film, but most of the songs are picturised with a prop, such as “muzhe dekhkar aapka muskuraana” has a “pot” (Matki). Another song has a “harmonium”. This song “Main pyar ka raahi hun” had a “jhoola” (Swing) with a wood plank. I have seen the video.

ये ऐसा अकेला गाना है जिसमें से ताल वाद्य यंत्रों का प्रयोग नहीं किया है।

I wonder why the uniquness of this song was not mentioned…
This perhaps is the only Hindi film song which is recorded without any percussion instruments – no tabla, no dholak, no drums. Just listen! It starts with guitar. It has flute and saxophone playing between stanzas. Has violins but no percussion in the whole song! Why? The story goes that tabla, drum and dholak artistes were late and could not reach the recording studio at the appointed time. As you would be aware, OP Nayyar was a stickler for time & discipline, he didn’t wait and started recording in time with the available musicians!!!
You may have listened and enjoyed this song umpteen times but never realised the above. Until some one told….

Very nice observation…. I have listened to this song umpteen number of times … and today someone pointed it out to me… and then I listened to it again…. WOW!! Just WOW!!! creating a song without any percussion and that too for a song composed in this particular tempo. I was always a fan of OP Nayyar saab… now I have become his die-hard fan.

I have a feeling that O P Nayyar composed the song ‘Jaa jaa jaa jaa bewafa…… from ‘Aar Paar’ (1954) without using any percussion. I hear only violins and probably a bass guitar in the background to give a feeling of a beat rhythm. Listen the song:

This song was added last looking to the popularity of the other songs but was removed later on for reducing length of the movie. However,
the song was very popularlike other songs of the movie.
