Koyi nahin hai phir bhi hai mujh ko

This is a song that I have heard many a times in the past but all these days I had no clue which movie this was from. It is not that I was not familiar with the movie. Indeed I was very much aware of the movie and I had discussed as many as four songs from this movie in the blog.
The lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M and that is how I came to know that the song is from “Patthar Ke Sanam” (1967). Just reading the lyrics did not ring any bells, but when I listened to the song then bell began to ring at high volume. So this is the song that is being discussed here. Oh well !
This lovely song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Waheeda Rehman. The song is a “waiting for the beloved” genre of song in which Waheeda Rehman runs around trees and then goes around rivulets, small bridges and other such scenic locations. To me she looks rather pleased which is a bit ironical seeing that she is singing about missing her beloved. But then who has been able to understand the mind of a lady (or that of a Hindi movie director picturising the song).
In any case, this song has been a well known and reasonably popular song of its time.
Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. The lilting music of this song is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Song-Koyi nahin hai phir bhi hai mujh ko (Patthar Ke Sanam) (1967) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal
Lyrics(Provided by Atif M)
koyi nahin hai phir bhi hai mujh ko
koyi nahin hai phir bhi hai mujh ko
kya jaane kis ka intezaar
ho o o o
koyi nahin hai phir bhi hai mujh ko
kya jaane kis ka intezaar
ho o o o
ye bhi na jaanoon lehra ke aanchal
kis ko bulaaye baar baar
sochoon ye hain ungliyaan kis ke pyaar ki
gaalon ko chhuye jo daali bahaar ki
chhuye jo daali bahaar ki
o o o o o
sochoon ye hain ungliyaan kis ke pyaar ki
kaun hai ae hawa ae bahaar
koyi nahin hai phir bhi hai mujh ko
kyaa jaane kis ka intezaar
kya jaane kis ka intezaar
paani mein chhabi main dekhoon khadi khadi
baalon mein saja ke kaliyaan badi badi
saja ke kaliyaan badi badi
o o o o o
paani mein chhabi main dekhoon khadi khadi
phir banoon aap hi beqaraar
koyi nahin hai phir bhi hai mujh ko
kya jaane kis ka intezaar
kya jaane kis ka intezaar
waadi mein nishaan mere hi paaon ke
phoolon pe hain rang meri hi chhaaon ke
hain rang meri hi chhaaon ke
o o o o o
waadi mein nishaan mere hi paaon ke
phir bhi kyun aaye na aitbaar
koyi nahin hai phir bhi hai mujh ko
kya jaane kis ka intezaar
o o o o o
ye bhi na jaanoon lehra ke aanchal
kis ko bulaaye baar baar
kya jaane kis ka intezaar
kya jaane kis ka intezaar

“…To me she looks rather pleased which is a bit ironical seeing that she is singing about missing her beloved. But then who has been able to understand the mind of a lady ….”
Dear Atul, she is waiting for love to enter her life…
She is supposed to be a young lady waiting in anticipation for a loved one coming in her life who would sweep her feet, with love.
Yes it is a song about missing love but not about despair but hope, dreams and expectations. Kindly “re-listen” to the song and then probably you would be able to understand the mind of the lady

Sometimes I make tongue in cheek comments in my write ups, which are not to be taken seriously. 😀
