Main panchhi aazaad

This wonderful song is from the film Tadbeer (1945). The film was produced and directed by Jayant Desai, and featured KL Saigal, Suraiyyaa, Mubarak, Rehana, Jillo, Salvi, Reva Shankar, Shalini, and Shashi Kapoor as a child actor. Born in 1938, Shashi would be just seven years when this film was released. It is possible that this could be his debut movie or definitely one of the very first few movies that he acted in. (I have not been able to track specific information on this).
The song is such a marvelous tribute to the freedom of the soul. The lyrics are by Swami Ramanand. The words are so simple and yet convey a very profound meaning. The first antaraa refers to the morning and evening as the start and end of life, and compares that to the birds that appear with the first ray of the sun in the morning, and depart when he evening sun is setting. What a beautiful representation of the life itself. In the second antaraa, the words tell of the eternal bond with the ‘supersoul’.
The rendition by Saigal Saab sounds so liberating. As one listens to the voice, one gets a feeling of an effortless flight in the open skies. The music composition is by Lal Mohammed. Enjoy is captivating voice as it transports the listeners to another world.
