Many people may remember a movie by the name Ek Din Ka Baadshah (1964). And if not the movie, many would be familiar with this wonderful song by Rafi Saab. Once you hear it, I am sure you will, say, oh yes, I remember this.
A gem of a song from the baton of Hansraj Behl, that is one of my long time favorites. A costume action and stunt drama, the film is produced and directed by Jugal Kishore, under the banner of Jugal Productions. The star cast includes Jairaj, Nishi, Daljit, Jugal Kishore, Sunder, Mohan Choti, Kammo, Madhumati, Naazi, Chandrima Bhaduri, Sulochana Chatterjee, Gopal Ralhan, Om Sharma, and others. The lyrics for this film are by Prem Warbartani, and of course the music compostion is by Hansraj Behl. Only the audio of the song is available, and as such it is not feasible to comment on the on screen performance of this song.
This song has been a well known song, and part of some Rafi Saab’s selections also. Enjoy this light but persuasive treat – simple words rendered equally simply.

Song-Teri pasand kyaa hai ye mujhko khabar nahin (Ek Din Ka Baadshah) (1964) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Prem Warbartani, MD-Hansraj Bahl
Lyrics
bulbul ko gul pasand hai
gul ko hain boo pasand
parwaane ko hai shamma ke
jalne ki khoo pasand
teri pasand kyaa hai
ye mujhko khabar nahin
meri pasand ye hai ke
mujhko hai tu pasand
meri pasand ye hai ke
mujhko hai tu pasand
teri pasand kyaa hai
ye mujhko khabar nahin
meri pasand ye hai ke
mujhko hai tu pasand
tera shabaab noor ke saanche mein kyaa dhalaa
suraj chiraag le ke tujhe dhoondne chalaa
main to hoon kyaa ke saare jahaan ko hai tu pasand
jahaan ko hai tu pasand
teri pasand kyaa hai
ye mujhko khabar nahin
meri pasand ye hai ke
mujhko hai tu pasand
meri pasand ye hai ke
mujhko hai tu pasand
tu shahkaar-e- husn hai main tujh se kyaa kahoon
kis munh se kis zubaan se tujhe bewafaa kahoon
mehndi ke badle tujh ko hai mera lahoo pasand
mera lahoo pasand
teri pasand kyaa hai
ye mujhko khabar nahin
meri pasand ye hai ke
mujhko hai tu pasand
meri pasand ye hai ke
mujhko hai tu pasand
ae mere chaand
meri mohabbat ke aasmaan
jo baat tujh mein hai
wo kisi hoor mein kahaan
keh doonga main khuda se bhi
mujhko hai tu pasand
mujhko hai tu pasand
teri pasand kyaa hai
ye mujhko khabar nahin
meri pasand ye hai ke
mujhko hai tu pasand
meri pasand ye hai ke
mujhko hai tu pasand
Sudhir ji,
EK DIN KA BADSHAH(1964),was a fantasy sort of movie produced and Directed by Jugal Kishore who had an urge for acting in every film that he Produced or Directed. That too a reasonably sized role, not a cameo !
In this movie too he does the role of the real Badshah.
This film tried to emphasize that what you see always is not the truth, always. There are things beyond what meets the eye.
Yusuf(Jairaj) is a spoilt son of Amber, the businessman in the Kingdom. He spends his time always with friends, enjoying, drinking and playing. One day while sitting in a pub, drinking with friends,he criticizes the King Aslam Parvez(Jugal Kishore),how the king mismanages the affairs of the kingdom and what actually should have been done. The Badshah,Aslam Pervez is sitting in disguise there only and hears this .Next day,Yusuf is brought to the Darbar to meet the Badshah, who makes him the Badshah for Ek Din.
Yusuf learns his lesson at the end of the day,but is rewarded by the King for his intelligence and honesty.

Thanks for the detailed information; I have not seen this movie, and was not able to locate any info online, as I was preparing this post last night.
As always, you have the info that is not available elsewhere. 🙂
Sudhirji, you were right – I remember this song, and I remember wondering about the lyrics – “meri pasand yeh hai ki mujhko hai tu pasand” and thinking how romantic it sounded (like any other teenager!). It is a beautiful and romantic song, sung by Rafi in his usual melodious style. Thanks for finding this song and writing it up, and thanks to Arunji for the info and to Atul for posting it.
