“Alladin Laila” (1957) is by now an obscure and forgotten movie. This B grade movie had actors like Shakeela, Mahipal, Heeralal, Maruti etc in it.
Since it is a B grade movie, so it follows that its music must be A grade, even if not too many people may have heard these songs.
Here is a song from this movie. The song is sung by Rafi. Asad Bhopali is the lyricist. Music is composed by A R Qureshi.
If your musical taste is like me, then you too will wonder how a song like this has been wallowing in obscurity, instead of being regarded as a timeless classic. Nice lyrics, nice music and Rafi sounding at his most divine. What a fantastically created song it is ! The song deserves to be better known among music lovers.
Song-Daulat ke laalach mein ye duniyaa kho baithhi imaan (Alladin Laila) (1957) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Asad Bhopali, MD-A R Qureshi
Lyrics
Daulat ke laalach mein
daulat ke laalach mein
ye duniyaa kho baithhi imaan
Khuda ko bhool gayaa insaan
Khuda ko bhool gayaa insaan
daulat ke laalach mein
daulat ke laalach mein
ye duniyaa kho baithhi imaan
Khuda ko bhool gayaa insaan
Khuda ko bhool gayaa insaan
apne bhi begaane bane hain
khoon ka rishta tod ke
apne bhi begaane bane hain
khoon ka rishta tod ke
betaa maa ko thhukraataa hai
nafrat se munh mod ke
nafrat se munh mod ke
aur hamaari is haalat pe
aur hamaari is haalat pe
hansta hai shaitaan
Khuda ko bhool gayaa insaan
Khuda ko bhool gayaa insaan
dil mein gunaahon ka hai andhera
shama bujhi sachchaayi ki
dil mein gunaahon ka hai andhera
shama bujhi sachchaayi ki
sunanae ko taiyyar nahin hai
koi baat bhalaayi ki
koi baat bhalaayi ki
jaise kisi ko neki badi ki
jaise kisi ko neki badi ki
nahin rahi pehchaan
Khuda ko bhool gayaa insaan
Khuda ko bhool gayaa insaan

I am subscribed to your blog and share your views about the songs from old films (your definition, not the world’s!). My older sister who introduced me to Hindi film music from the time I was a toddler in the late 50s is a devotee of old songs. She has a great collection of songs recorded from Radio ceylon and other sources. The quality of audio might not be first grade, but the collection is a labour of love. I am trying to convert them into MP3. Would you be able to tell me some way it can be done quickly?
When I told her about your blog, she asked, ‘If he is so devoted to the old songs, shall I give all my collection to him?’
I play some of the obscure songs you have so lovingly compiled for her on the phone, as she has no time to sit and listen to the songs in one place. Her hearing is very bad now. I would be happy if you could drop a line to me at zephyr@cybernag.in
