Chal chal chameli baag mein
Posted on: September 8, 2011
I am aware of a movie called “Dada” (1978). Later I found out that another movie of the same name was released in 1966 too. Both these movies incidentally had the same music director, viz Usha Khanna.
Now I find that there was another movie of the same name, which was released in 1949.
Not much is not about this movie. Instead of trying to find details about this movie which may be non existent and even wrong, here is a rare song from this obscure movie.
This song is sung by Shamshad Begam , G M Durrani, female chorus and male chorus. Shewan Rizvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Nashaad.
On the occasion of G M Durrani’s death abnniversary (8th september), here is this song from “Dada” (1949) as a tribute to him.
Song-Chal chal chameli baag mein (Dada) (1949) Singers-Shamshad Begam, G M Durrani, Lyrics-Shewan Rizvi, MD-Nashaad

Atul ji,
There were 4 films called DADA-49,66,78 and 99. There were in all 25 films having the word Dada in their titles, like Dadagiri etc.DADA seemed to be a favorite word.
DADA(1949),a Omar Khayyam films product, was Directed by Harish. The Music was given by SHAUKAT HUSSAIN DEHLAVI(and NOT Naashad). The Lyricists were Shevan Rizvi,Rafi Ajmeri,Hussain Hyderabadi and Majrooh Sultanpuri.(Even Majrooh’s biography/filmography mentions Shaukat Dehalvi’s name as MD for Dada-49)
The cast was Shaikh Mukhtar,Begum Para,Munawwar Sultana,Pratima Devi,Suraiyya Sultana,Mukri,Shyam,Murad,Ansari,Cuckkoo,Maya banerjee etc.
Rai Bahadur has a new second wife and due to her torture, the first wife Lata(Begum Para) leaves house with son Sunder. She hands over Sunder to her friend Sarala before dying.Sunder grows up with sarala’s son Jai(Shyam).Sunder(Shaikh Mukhtar) is called Dada by all people for he is enemy to croocks and friend to gentlemen.Jai falls in love with Shanta(Suraiya Sultana) the daughter of Rai Saheb and the second wife Kundal(Munawwar Sultana). The evil Manager of Raisaheb,Pratap(Murad),who eyes shanta and the estate of Raisaheb brings distance beteen the lovers.Pratap presents Kumar-his friend-as the lost son Sunder to Raisaheb.
The film is full of plots and subplots till all is well in the end.

Atul ji,
Shaukat Hussain Dehlavi, gave music to his films
Dildar-47
Jeene Do-48
Payal-48
Toote Taray-48(In had the famous song”Na kisike aankh ka noor hoon”,a gazal by Bahadurshah Zafar) and
Dada-1949
as Shaukat hussain Dehlavi or Shaukat hussain hydari.
It was only in 1953,when Nakhshab Jarachavi, the Director of “Naghma”,made him change his name to Naashad and after 1953 he only used Naashad for rest of his life.
In all fairness,Dada-49 should be credited to the name Shaukat hussain Dehlavi.
