Jin raaton mein neend ud jaati hai

Posted on: September 21, 2011

“Raat Ki Raani” (1949) was a J S Pictures presentation.Jagdish Sethi, who was the owner of the J S Pictures was also the director of this movie. He in fact acted in this movie too. The movie had Munawwar Sultana, Shyam, Sulochana Chatterji, Madan Puri, Jagdish Sethi, Om Prakash, Chaman Puri etc in it.

Here is a song from this movie. This song is sung by Rafi. Aarzoo Lucknowi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hansraj Bahl.

Only the audio of this rare song is available but my guess is that the song was picturised on Shyam.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm.

Song-Jin raaton mein neend ud jaati hai (Raat Ki Raani) (1949) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Aarzoo Lucknowi, MD-Hansraj Bahl

Lyrics (Provided by nahm)

aaa
jin raaton mein neend udd jaati hai
kya qeher ki raaten hoti hain
darwaazon se takraa jaate hain
deewaaron se baaten hoti hain
jin raaton mein neend udd jaati hai
kya qeher ki raaten hoti hain
darwaazon se takraa jaate hain
deewaaron se
deewaaron se baaten hoti hain
jin raaton mein neend

ghir ghir ke jo baadal aate hain
aur be-barse khul jaate hain
aashaaon ki
aashaaon ki jhoothi duniyaa mein
sukhi barsaaten hoti hain
jin raaton mein neend

arz kiya hai
jab wo nahin hote pehlu mein
aur lambi raaten hoti hain
yaad aa ke
yaad aa ke sataati rehti hain
aur dil se
aur dil se baaten hoti hain
jin raaton mein neend

gaur farmaaiye
hansne mein jo aansoo aate hain
do tasweeren dikhlaate hain
har roz
har roz janaaze uthhte hain
har roz baraaten hoti hain
jin raaton mein neend

maqta arz hai
himmat kis ki hai jo poochh sake
ye aarzu-e-saudaayi hai
kyun saahib
kyun saahib aakhir akele mein
ye kis se
ye kis se baaten hoti hain
jin raaton mein neend udd jaati hai
kya qeher ki raaten hoti hain
darwaazon se takraa jaate hain
deewaaron se baaten hoti hain
jin raaton mein neend

Obviously, it is a ghazal, and a mukammal ghazal by a ustad shayar; and is being read in some mushaira. ‘Ghaur farmaiye’, ‘maqta arz kiya hai’ ensure it is in some mushayra. It is not easy to go back some sixty years but one does remember that this ghazal was extremely popular in fifties. It was quite common to see it rendered by young students in music programs in colleges and collecting trophies.
