Ye bheegi fizaayen

“Kaanch Aur Heera” (1972) was a B grade movie produced by Sudarshan Chitra and directed by Charandas Shokh. The makers of this movie must have been great believers in winning lottery or stock market riches, seeing that they had staked the future of their movie on names like Pankaj and Shaheen. Yes, they were the lead actors in this movie. Other in the cast were Rajan Haksar, Kamal Kapoor, Manmohan etc.
Even I, a pre teen kid those days, regarded a movie with a title like this as a waste of time. Which pre teen kid in his right mind would want to watch boring lead actors like that. It is natural that people more mature than me also thought likewise. As a result, the movie deservedly fell flat at the box office.
The songs of this movie too did not do all that well, which was natural. More so because the music of this movie was not in tunes with the music of the times. That era was the era of Kishore Kumar and R D Burman. With the passage of time though, one can begin to warm up to songs like this that had failed to do well at that time.
Only the audio of this song is available, but one can guess that a duet song like this could only be picturised on the lead pair of the movie, whoever they are. So I conclude that this song is picturised on Pankaj (who ?) and Shaheen (or is it Shameem ?). The song is sung by Rafi and Chandrani Mukherji Hemlata. Ravindra Jain, then a newcomer is the lyricist as well as the music director.
Seeing that very little information is available about this movie, despite this movie being of recent vintage, I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie.

Song-Ye bheegi fizaayen (Kaanch Aur Heeraa) (1972) Singers-Rafi, Hemlata, Lyrics-Ravindra Jain, MD-Ravindra Jain
Lyrics
ye bheegi fizaayen
inhin mein kho jaayen
ye bheegi fizaayen
inhin mein kho jaayen
zamaana hamen dhoondhe
ham kisi ko na milen
tamannaaon ke phool
tanhaayi mein khile
tamannaaon ke phool
tanhaayi mein khile
ho
ye bheegi fizaayen
inhin mein kho jaayen
zamaana hamen dhoondhe
ham kisi ko na milen
baar baar aataa nahin din aisaa
par ye to tere jee mein aaye jaisaa
achhaa
baar baar aataa nahin din aisaa
par ye to tere jee mein aaye jaisaa
sochh mat jag ko lagegaa kaisaa
ho
ye bheegi fizaayen
inhin mein kho jaayen
zamaana hamen dhoondhe
ham kisi ko na milen
dil mein chhupi ho armaan banke
tan mein basi ho meri jaan banke
sach
dil mein chhupi ho armaan banke
tan mein basi ho meri jaan banke
chhod nahin jaanaa anjaan banke
ho
ye bheegi fizaayen
inhin mein kho jaayen
zamaana hamen dhoondhe
ham kisi ko na milen
zamaana hamen dhoondhe
ham kisi ko na milen

The guy who lip syncs another popular song(Nazar aathi nahin manzil, tadapne se bhi kyaa haasil, taqdeer mein ai mere dil, andhere hi andhere hain) from this movie Pankaj was there in 1972 Aankhon aankhon mein starring rakesh roshan, raakhee. He played a role (with grey shades)of brother to rakesh roshan.

Atul ji,
First of all,the above song is sung by Mohd.Rafi and Hemlata and not by chandrani Mukherji.
KANCH AUR HEERA(1972),a Sudershan Chitra film, was directed by Charandas Shokh, who also did the story, dialogues and s/play.Charandas Shokh was basically a writer and has done story or s/play or dialogues in about 50 films from1959(Hunterwali) to 1995(Himmat).
The cast, surprisingly had many southern actors, including the Heroine Shaheen.Pankaj was the hero.Others were Rajen Haksar,Sudarshan,Dikki Madhavrao,Mohd.Narayan,Chetan, malashri, kundan,Rajendra prasad, manmohan,Uday kr. etc.Guest app. by Kamal kapoor, and kashinath.
The story was that a wealthy person has 2 sons. One is a loafer and the other is a blind one.The father is murdered and both sons are arrested. The loafer brother tries to kill his brother with the help of 2 girl friends, but he not only survives, but also gets back his vision.meanwhile, the real culprit,a friend of the father is tracked and caught.
Such mindless story, unknown actors and a amatuer director made the movie what probably it deserved-total rest in the cans !
