Hata do chehre se zulf ka ye naazuk pehraa

When I look at the lyrics of this song from “Shaahi Luteraa” (1965), I wonder if the lyricist Gulshan Baawra had ever thought of becoming an anatomist/ physician as an alternative career option. 🙂 One can find mention of so many body parts in this song, viz. “Chehra” (face), “Zulf” (tress of hair), “Aankh” (eye),”Pehloo” (side),”Palken” (eye brows),”dil” (heart), “Jigar” (liver) etc. 🙂 But in the lyricist’s scheme of things, “jigar” is more valuable than “dil”, which few medical practitioners would agree with.
The song in question is a duet. The initial lines are sung by Rafi and when the female voice joins, the listener is forced to do a double take. The voice is not the usual female voice of Asha Bhonsle who sand another duet with Rafi in this movie. The voice belongs to Kaushi Gidwani, and her voice sounds like a let down after listening to Rafi’s voice, but then it appears that Kaushi Gidwani was well connected to the makers of this movie. I had recently posted another song where She had figured in a song alongwith Rafi and Asha Bhonsle where she mostly sang in chorus, but here she gets to sing alongwith Rafi. She hangs on gamely, but it is clear to all concerned that her voice had limitations.
After listening to this song a few times, one gets used to her voice somewhat. And this song apparently had become quite a popular song during its time, and it is certainly the most well known song of Kaushi Gidwani, I am told.
Our in house expert, Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh had informed us that Kaushi Gidwani is the mother of Kitu Gidwani, a well known TV actress of 1980s. Yes, indeed I am familiar with Kitu Gidwani.
Here is this duet from “Shaahi Lutera” (1965) which is quite a hummable song. Music is composed by Bulo C Rani.
I am not familiar with the actors on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.
PS-Now I know, thanks to the information provided by Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, that this song is indeed picturised on the lead pair of Azad and Chitra.

Lyrics
Hata do chehre se
ye zulf ka naazuk pehraa
ye haseen roop meri aankhon mein dhal jaane do
yoon na dekho mere saajan
ye nigaahen roko
dil ???
pehloo mein sambhal jaane do
sambhal jaane do
hata do chehre se zulfen
aaj ye rut hai jawaan
tu bhi jawaan
ham bhi jawaan
aaj ye rut hai jawaan
tu bhi jawaan
ham bhi jawaan
phir kabhi laut ke
phir kabhi laut ke
aaye na aaye aisa samaa
aisa samaa
dekho yoon zidd na karo
baat meri maan bhi lo
aur kuchh der mere dil ko bahal jaane do
bahal jaane do
hata do chehre se zulfen
aapne jo bhi kahaa
hamne suna
dil ne sunaa
aapne jo bhi kahaa
hamne suna
dil ne sunaa
aur sunkar bekhudi
aur sunkar bekhudi
chhaane lagi jaane jahaan
jaane jahaan
dekho yoon zidd na karo
baat meri maan bhi lo
meri aankhon mein diye
pyaar ke jal jaane do
jal jaane do
hata do chehre se zulfen
jaane man dekh lo
palken uthha ke tum idhar
jaane man dekh lo
palken uthha ke tum idhar
pyaar mein dil to kyaa
pyaar mein dil to kyaa
haar chuke hain apna jigar
apna jigar
dekho yoon zidd na karo
baat meri maan bhi lo
teere chalte hain mere dil pe to chal jaane do

Kitu Gidwani was a successful model too, before she started acting. She has worked in some films. Recent appearance was in “Fashion”.
