Sun lo sajan meri baat
Posted on: November 10, 2011
“Lahore” (1949) was a nice movie which was based on the aftermath of India’s partition following independence. This movie was a Jaimini Dewan production and it was directed by M L Anand. The movie had Karan Dewan, Nargis, Kanan Devi, Om Prakash, Randhir, Balakram, Ram Avtaar etc in it.
This movie is also full of some lovely songs that are remembered to this day. I have discussed three songs from this movie in the past.
Here is another song from the movie. This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Nargis and Karan Dewan. The song also has a brief aalaap in a male singer’s voice. I guess that it is in the voice of Karan Dewan. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.
Aziz Kashmiri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shyam Sundar.

Lyrics
sun lo sajan
ho sun lo sajan meri baat
meri baat,
jee ki baat
chhod na denaa kahin
chhod na denaa kahin
meraa saath
meraa saath
dil ki baat
sun lo sajan
ho sun lo sajan meri baat
meri baat,
jee ki baat
ho o o
din hain raseele
ratiyaan suhaani
ho o o
din hain raseele
ratiyaan suhaani
aise mein keh le dilon ki kahaani
aise mein keh le dilon ki kahaani
aaj dilon ki nagariyaa basaa len
aaj dilon ki nagariyaa basaa len
kal ki,
jhhooti baat
aaa
kal ki,
jhhooti baat
meri baat
jee ki baat
sun lo sajan
ho sun lo sajan meri baat
meri baat,
jee ki baat
aaa aaa aaa
aaa aaa aaa
aaa aaa aaa
aaa aaa aaa
o o o
saanchi kaho yaa bahaane se keh do
o o o
saanchi kaho yaa bahaane se keh do
mere ho tum ye zamaane se keh do
mere ho tum ye zamaane se keh do
chup chup ho kyun
kuchh to bolo sajanwa
chupp chupp ho kyun
kuchh to bolo sajanwa
kehdo
dil ki baat
haan
kehdo dil ki baat
dil ki baat
meri baat
sun lo sajan
ho sun lo sajan meri baat
meri baat,
jee ki baat

sun lo sajan meri baat, jee ki baat
chhod na denaa kahin meraa saath
O beloved, please listen to my words,
Listen to the murmurs of my heart
These murmurs beseech you, never forsake my company in life
din hain raseele, ratiyaan suhaani
aise mein keh le dilon ki kahaani
The days are sweet as nectar
And the nights are friendly and pleasant
In moments such as these, tell me the tale of hearts in love
aaj dilon ki nagariyaa basaa len
kal ki, jhhooti baat
Let today be the day
For the hearts to create our own world of love together
Tomorrow is a deception, why wait
saanchi kaho yaa bahaane se keh do
mere ho tum ye zamaane se keh do
Pray tell the whole world that you are mine
Say it, frankly and openly, or even just as a veiled hint
chup chup ho kyun, kuchh to bolo sajanwa
kehdo, dil ki baat
Why be silent today beloved, say something
Tell me the secrets of your heart
