Most movie songs that people get to hear are included in the movies, and so audios as well as videos of most songs are available. But there are cases when some songs are excluded for one reason or the other.
The songs that were excluded from the movieswere sometimes great songs and often arguably the best song of the movie. In one case, a song voted the best song of the year was excluded from the movie.
The music director, whose compositions suffered this fate the most was undoubtedly O P Nayyar. Sometimes his songs would be excluded because the song did not fit into the movie, sometimes because of censors’ orders, and sometimes because of reason like differences with other artists. Some of the notable O P Nayyar compositions that were excluded from the movies were Jaata kahaan hai deewaane sab kuchh yahaan hai sanam (CID), Balmaa khuli hawaa mein (Kashmir Ki Kali) , Hothhon pe hansi aankhon mein nasha (Saawan Ki Ghataa) Tumhaare ye nakhre(Kahin din kahin raat), Chain se hamko kabhi(Pran Jaaye par vachan na jaaye) etc.
I have discussed as many as seven songs from “Mere Sanam” (1965) in the past. Here is another song from this song. This song is a duet sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. This song is extremely popular but no one has seen the picturisation of this song for the simple reason that this song was excluded from the movie. I have no idea whether the song was actually picturised or not.

Deat Atul-ji,
wonderful posts and of late, am a regular follower of your ‘song a day’. Have a lot of catching up to do, though.
Just a small pointer — you’ve mentioned inadvertently that this song is a Rafi-Lata duet. Er sacrilege, this being an OPN composition.
Thanks for pointing out several of the songs that were left unpicturised.

The beautiful violin played at the beginning the song sets the mood of the song.
Exceptional renditions by Rafi and Asha on beautifully crafted words of Majrooh Sultanpuri.
As usual, the best song has been left out of the film.

वाह … लाजवाब !!
शुरूआती वायलिन तो जानलेवा है ही और इस दोगाने का ट्रेडमार्क भी …. लेकिन आगे भी पूरे गीत में भी जिस कदर वायलिन, आशा और रफी साहब के साथ मुखड़े और अंतरों में चलता है उसका तो कोई तोड़ नहीं । नगमें की लय और फैलाव में आवाजें जितनी मधुरतम है उतना ही बेमिसाल साथ वायलिन का भी है जो ध्यान से सुनने पर सरलता से महसूस किया जा सकता है ।
इंट्रल्यूड्ज में सितार और जलतरंग का एकल एकल और स्वतंत्र प्रयोग जितना मनोरम बन पड़ा है वो ये साबित करता है की साजों की एक साथ भीड़ मेलोडी रचने के लिए कतंई आवश्यक नहीं …. ये ही जादू है उस दौर के जादूगरों का जो उस स्वर्णिम दौर को रेखांकित करता है ।
एक और बात जो इस नगमें की मुझे बेहद पसंद है वो है इसकी लाजवाब तर्ज जिसे नय्यर साहब क्या गजब धीमी और मधुर शैली में ”शायराना” अंदाज में प्रसतुत करने में शत-प्रतिशत सफल रहे …. इतनी मधुर ”शायराना तर्जें” हिंदी फिल्मीं गीतों में कम ही बन पड़ी हैं ।
खेद सिर्फ इस बात का है कि इस दोगाने का विडियो शायद हम कभी ना देख पाएं और क्यों इसे फिल्म से निकाल दिया गया ये मेरी समझ से भी बिल्कुल बाहर है ।

Atul ji, thanks for responding so very promptly. It’s a stupendous effort you have put in . I have been browsing through this incredible creation for the last 24 hours. I just love these old collections. You must be bringing so much of happiness and cheer into millions of fans like me. It requires so much of time dedication and commitment to undertake a work like this. Is this a one man show? And then you have the time to reply to everyone. Please continue the good work. Thanks for your appreciation which made my day yesterday as well as today. It began as a one man show but now it has become a big collaborative effort among more than a dozen likeminded music lovers who regularly contribute in various ways, viz. by sending in lyrics, writeups, comments etc and also by doing original research, unearthing rare songs etc.
