Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Tum miley jo din dhaley

Posted on: February 14, 2012

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

Before I actually came across this film, I would not have believed a film by this name. But in the world of cinema, we simply need to cease being surprised at the film titles.

‘Dr. Shaitaan’ is a crime-suspense drama that was released in 1960 under the banner of Bohra Brothers, Bombay. The film is produced by Rajkumar and is directed by Sri Ram. The star cast is an amply familiar set for such B/C grade films, and includes Sheikh Mukhtar, Premnath, Shakila, Sheikh, Tiwari, Helen, Nasreen, Naazi, Indira, Rajan Kapoor, Ramkumar, Sunder, Mirajkar, Ramlal, Kamal Sharma, Maqbool etc. The songs of this film are written by Jaan Nissar Akhtar. And the music composition is by N Dutta

The singing voices are those of Mohammed Rafi and Geeta Dutt, supported by a chorus. Only the audio of this song is available, and I request other readers to please add information about the film and about the picturization of this song. The song is a flirtatious exchange between the genders. The melody is rendered at a very fast clip, and it almost gives a feeling of being a bicycle song. And if not a bicycle song, then almost certainly a song that is rendered on the move.

This post also celebrates the 300th song of Geeta Dutt on this blog. Of course, Lata Mangeshkar (with 1650 plus) and Rafi Saab (with 1350 plus) lead the list of singers with most songs posted on this blog. After that we have Asha ji (just a few short of the 800 mark), Kishore Da (with 500 plus) and Mukesh ji (with 300 plus). Geeta ji is the sixth singer to achieve the triple century of songs posted here. A voice that forever has sounded young, whether it is foot tapping melodies or sentimental songs of sadness – her songs never fail to catch attention, just like the songs of Mukesh ji. Congratulations.

Enjoy this foot tapping and a very uplifting melody – a racy composition created by N Dutta.

tum miley jo din dhaley, peechhe peechhe hum chaley
may i know your name name name
jaa re jaa o manchale, peechhe dekho pad chaley
chhede humko shame shame shame

We meet at the edge of the day
I am following you
Please let me know your name

jaa re jaa o manchale, peechhe dekho pad chaley
chhede humko shame shame shame

O nosy admirer, of your own mind
Dare not follow me
Shame on you to flirt with me

badi tum nidar, chali yoon kidhar
khade kab se hum, zaraa phenko nazar
chale tu idhar, to kabhi udhar
tere dil mein kya, hamen sab hai khabar

O fearless lady
Whither you go (this time of the day)
I have been waiting here since whenever
Spare me a glance at least

chale tu idhar, to kabhi udhar
tere dil mein kya, hamen sab hai khabar

Fickle and erratic
You go this way, that way
The mischief that is in your heart
I am fully aware of it

kabhi tum yahaan, kabhi tum wahaan
zaraa sun to lo kahey kya ye samaa

Sometimes you are close
And sometimes you are distant
Just listen what this weather is suggesting

arrey mein kahaan, arrey tu kahaan
mere moonh na lag, badaa ayaa jawaan

(What audacity, daring to compare)
I am one you cannot dream to reach
Dare not have words with me
O you vain young man

aji kis ghadi, ye nazar ladee
o zaraa dum to lo, badi mushkil padi

Woe to the moment that our glances met
O slow down and tarry
My heart is so distressed

rahoon mein khadi, mujhe kya padi
arre jaa re jaa, karen baaten badi

And why, may I ask
Should I wait (for you)
What is it to me
Don’t spin tall tales
On your way and be gone

Sudhir ji,
You have rightly commented about the funny titles of Hindi films. Some day I will put up a list of funny film titles for the reading pleasure of our readers.
DR.SHAITAN-1960 was an interesting film, provided you left your brains and reasoning power and logic at home before embarking on the veture of seeing this type of film.I remember having seen this film,as I was an ardent fan of Shaikh mukhtar, those days.
The film,a Bohra bros. production was produced by Ramkumar and directed by Shriram Bohra. The dialogues, story and s/play was by Ramprakash Ashk.
Dr.Ashok(Premnath) was an internationally famous scientist, who had vowed to keep this world in peace, come what may. This ofcourse was not what Dr.Shaitan(Shaikh Mukhtar) thought. He wanted to rule the world. He gets hold of Atomic power. He used to give life to his dead goons, with Atomic power and they never died.Dr.Shaitan creates chaos, destruction and mass killings.the police are helpless. They cant find Dr.Shaitan.

The police contact Dr.Ashok, who is busy with his work whenever he is free from singing songs and meeting his lover Asha(Shakila).Ashok accepts the challenge. When Dr.Shaitan learns about this,he(naturally) kidnaps Asha to bargain with the police.Dr.Ashok produces a weapon which will kill Dr.Shaitan, despite his Atomic power.

With the help of police Dr.Ashok enters Dr.Shaitan’s den a la James Bond style and not only rescues Asha but also kills Dr.Shaitan, for the greater wellbeing of the mankind.

Dr.Ashok is honoured by the government and privately given a special prize by Asha !

Thus the world is saved.

Arun ji,

Thanks for the details about the film.
Your warehouse of information on old Hindi films seems to be as big as the sea of old film songs.

Cheers and thanks
