Man bhaawan ke ghar jaaye gori

I have heard this song many a times and liked this song too, but all this while I was totally unaware about the details of this song. Now that I have heard this song again, I recall that this song was one of the songs that Sunil Gavaskar had played during the Vishesh Jaimala programme on Vividh Bharati in 1975.
I had heard this programme on Radio, and Raja, located a few hundred kms away had listened to the same programme too. But the song that I remember from that “Vishesh Jaimala” programme was not this song but the song Chand si mahbooba ho meri kab aisa maine socha tha from “Himalay Ki God Mein” (1965). Sunil Gavaskar, then still an active test cricketer (with just five test centuries to his credit) had recently got married and he played quite a few songs dedicated to his wife.
It is only now that I have come to realise that the song “Man bhaawan ke ghar jaaye gori” which Sunil Gavaskar played in that programme is from “Chori Chori”. The fact that this song is not yet a part of the blog surprises me as much as it suprises others. 🙂
Here is this lovely “bidaai” song from “Chori Chori” (1956) which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Lata. Shailendra is the lyricist and music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan. Looking at the picturisation, I guess that Nargis is getting married (against her wishes, of course) and her sahelis sing this bidaai cum wedding song on the occasion. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the actors seen in the picturisation.

Lyrics(Provided by Atif M)
man bhaawan ke ghar jaaye gori
ghoonghat mein sharmaaye gori
bandhi rahe ye pyaar ki dori
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
man bhaawan ke ghar jaaye gori
ghoonghat mein sharmaaye gori
bandhi rahe ye pyaar ki dori
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
bachpan ke din khel ganwaaye
aayi jawaani to baalam aaye
bachpan ke din khel ganwaaye
aayi jawaani to baalam aaye
aayi jawaani to baalam aaye
tere aangan baje badhaayi gori
kyun naina chhalkaaye gori
bandhi rahe ye pyaar ki dori
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
is duniya ki reet yehi hai
reet yehi hai
haath jo thaame meet wohi hai
meet wohi hai
haath jo thaame meet wohi hai
ab hum to huye paraaye gori
dil tere sang jaaye gori
bandhi rahe ye pyaar ki dori
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
masti bhare saawan ke jhoole
tujh ko qasam hai jo tu bhoole
masti bhare saawan ke jhoole
tujh ko qasam hai jo tu bhoole
tujh ko qasam hai jo tu bhoole
ab ke jab waapas aaye gori
god bhari le aaye gori
bandhi rahe ye pyaar ki dori
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
man bhaawan ke ghar jaaye gori
ghoonghat mein sharmaaye gori
bandhi rahe ye pyaar ki dori
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana
hamein na bhulaana

‘Chori chori’ was ‘inspired’ by ‘It Happened One Night’ starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. Not only this was not an RK Production (it was an AVM movie), it was also the last movie of this fantastic pair, Raj Kapoor and Nargis. I read somewhere that while in Madras for the shooting fo the movie, Raj Kapoor was attracted to Padmini, who happened to be shooting on another set at AVM Studios. Nargis resented this and never spoke to Raj ever again.
By the way, there’s a little known, but extremely beautiful song by Lata in this movie…’Us paar sajan, is paar ….’

I think the dancing sisters are SAI and SUBBALAXMI,
Their dances are there in movies like
Azaad(apalam chapalam-1955)& Sharda(1957)
