“Mera Naam Joker” (1970) was an ambitious movie of Raj Kapoor which unfortunately failed big time at the box office when it was released. The box office debacle was so big that it took Raj Kapoor quite some time to recover from it, and when he recovered, he had made a clean break from the past, in the sense that his musical team was totally revamped.
Yes, “Mera Naam Joker” (1970) was the last movie of Shankar Jaikishan with Raj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor signed up Laxmikany Pyarelal for his next movie, viz “Bobby” (1973). The lyricists for that movie were also different as was the main male playback singer for “Bobby” (1973).
It was not as if Shankar Jaikishan had done poorly or their music had led to the box office debale of the movie. On the other hand, music was the saving grace of this movie. It was the movie which was rejected by the audience, not the music.
Most music lovers are familiar with the more popular songs of “Mera Naam Joker” (1970) which were sung by Mukesh, Manna Dey, Lata etc. I was not aware that this movie also has a song by Rafi.
Here is this song from “Mera Naam Joker” (1970) which is sung by Rafi and it is picturised on Raj Kapoor and Padmini.
Raj Kumar singing in three voices in this movie ! This musy be a record for him, though the record of lip syncing in five different voices in a movie still belongs to his kid brother Shammi Kapoor.
This song is written by Prem Dhawan. This is also a news to me that Prem Dhawan ever wrote a song for Shankar Jaikishan.

Mukesh could not have sung such a song and hence Md Rafi. Prem Dhawan was typically Punjabi and adept at writing ‘heer’
This is similar to Bobby song sung by Narendra Chanchal.

i am back correcting you. Raj Kumar was not part of this movie. the fakir in this song is Raj KAPOOR 🙂
