“Shankar Seeta Anusuya”(1965) was a B grade mythological movie produced by Madhur Pictures and directed by Manibhai Vyas. The movie had Mahipal, Manhar Desai, Nirupa Roy, B M Vyas, anita Guha, Helen, Sulochana, Shahu Modak, Dev Kumar etc in it.
Few people may have watched the movie or heard the songs of this movie, or so I thought. It turns out that I have heard a song from this movie in the past without realising that the song was from this movie.
The song is written by Kavi Pradeep and sung by himself in his inimitable style.
Pt Shivram is the music director.
I am not aware about the artist on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify him.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

ek hansta hai dus rote hain
hamen hanste mukhde chaar mile
ae ae

ae ae

yahaan sukh se sau guni peer dekhi
ek hansta hai das rote hain
hamne jag ki ajab tasveer dekhi
ek hansta hai das rote hai
do ek sukhi yahaan laakhon mein
ae
do ek sukhi yahaan laakhon mein
ae
aansoo hai karodon aankhon ke
hamne gin gin har taqdeer dekhi
ek hansta hai das rote hai
hamne jag ki ajab tasveer dekhi
ek hansta hai dus rote hai
kuchh bol prabhu yeh kyaa maayaa
aa
kuchh bol prabhu yeh kyaa maayaa
aa

hamne dekhe mahal re kutir dekhi
ek hansta hai das rote hai
hamne jag ki ajab tasveer dekhi
ek hansta hai dus rote hai

Kavi Pradeep also sings, I didnt know. He sounds so much like Mukesh to me, especially when he sings “ek hansta hai”!! Anybody agrees?

Aparna ji,
Kavi Pradeep used to sing songs in films since he entered the industry thru film “Kangan” in 1939,in which 3 songs out of the 4 he wrote, were sung by him.
He is known for his songs of religion,Phiposophy and Patriotism. There will be hardly a hindi song fan who has not heard the songs like,”Aao bachho tumhen dikhaye jhanki Hindustan ki”-Jagriti,or “Dekh tere sansar ki halat kya ho gayi bhagwan, kitna badal gaya insaan”-from Nastik all sung by Kavi Pradeep.
He wrote songs in 76 films and has sung more than 50 songs.
This blog also has many songs sung by Kavi Pradeep.

Atul ji,
You have wondered whether any people saw this film.
There is a very big market for Mythologicals and Religious films in India. The audience in Cities, though existing, may not be that pronounced and felt, but in semi urban cities, and villages, these films run nicely. As per the statistics published recently by the Film statistics commision, since 1931 onwards,NO mythological film has ever gone in loss ! On the contrary, films made on shoestring budgets like ‘Jai Santoshi Maa’ have clicked and created records at the Box Office. some of the landmark Mythologicals, like RAM RAJYA or HAR HAR MAHADEV had extraordinary music and the songs of films like NAVDURGA and JAI GANESH have become a must play on every festival at the temples and stalls near temples. Many actors/actresses survived on the staple of Mythologicals and still many others ,like Nirupa Roy,Mahipal, trilok Kapoor,Anita Guha etc entered the mainstream cinema thru social films. One will be surprised to know that even Dev Anand has worked in a mythological film !
I used to see mythologicals regularly as I was fascinated by the trick scenes.Incidently,it also improved my knowledge about our Purans and vedas, and I could discuss authoritatively in a conversation involving such topics.
SHANKAR SITA ANUSUYA-1965 is a mix up of stories from Shiv puran and Ramayana. The story,s/play,dialogues were by Pt.Madhur, who produced this film under his own banner Madhur Films. The direction was by manibhai Vyas.
The cast included Nirupa Roy as Devi Narmada,Mahipal as Sri Ram,Anita Guha as Sita,Sulochana as Sati Anusuya,Manhar Desai as Vishnu and many other regulars in various roles. This Manhar Desai, who specialised in Mythological and Gujrathi Historical/social films was a
Christian named MALCOM ALFREDO DESAI(1917 – 1992),from Goa.he changed his name to suit the films he was doing here.
Sati Anusuya had become very well known for her celestial powers and her stregth as a Sati mata.Uma once asked Shankar if it was true and coaxed him to test her.Accordingly,Bramha,Vishnu and Mahesh went to her ashram in the guise of yogis.Anusuya treated them with due respect but when they expressed a desire for her itself,in a rage she changed them into infants. The respective wives of these Gods, namely, uma,Bramhini and sita came to look for them and begged mercy to Anusuya who changed them back to original forms.
Uma went away with shankar.after few days when Shankar Parvati were going thru airways to kailas,in Panchavati, they saw Ram searching for Sita who was abducted by Ravana.Shankar tells Uma that Ram is Vishnu Avtar, but she does not believe and changes herself as Sita and meets Ram.Vishnu ji recognises Umaji and calls her ‘Hey Mata ji’. Uma is convinced, but Shankar is angry on her.the story has many subplots. The film further depicts Ram Ravan Yudh,Seeta Agni Pariksh,Return to Ayodhya,Sending Sita away and finally Sita taken by Bhoomi, after Ashwamedh Yadnya etc. Its almost Ramayan in the second Half.
