Rehne do chanda badli mein

“Chowkidaar”(1974) was produced by Gopal Ralhan and directed by Shyam Ralhan. The movie had Sanjeev Kumar, Yogita Bali, Vinod Khanna, Jeevan, Asit Sen, Jaishree T., Zebunissa, Om Prakash etc in it.
The movie did not do well and the music too did not become popular. But now, after nearly four decades later, one can listen to these songs in leisure without feeling the need to compare them with the more popular songs of those days. We have the added advantage of being able to watch the video of the song too, without needing to go to the movie hall playing the movie. This flexibility of being able to watch the video of your favourite song anytime at home was a stuff of science fiction in the past, and I used to dream about it a lot in 1980s. Unbelievably, that science fiction stuff is now a reality within the reach of common music lovers too.
This ability, made possible by technological advancements, has enabled us to rediscover lots and lots of forgotten songs which otherwise would have remained unheard and unwatched.
Personally I would never have known about the songs of “Chowkidaar” (1974) but for the fact that songs of this movie are now available for watching as they have been uploaded by some music lovers. Moreover, we have likeminded lovers of old Hindi songs who share the links, lyrics etc of such songs so that more people may be able to savour these songs.
Here is a mujra song from “Chowkidaar” (1974). It is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Vaishali. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and music is composed by Madan Mohan. When one looks at the picturisation of this song, one realises that the picturisation is quite superbly done. And as for the audio, it is outstanding too, as can be expected of the musical team of Asha Bhonsle, Rajinder Krishan and Madan Mohan. The fact that the musical team of those days may take so many pains to come up with such outstanding composition for a mujra song is unimaginable today.
Here is this rare and forgotten song from “Chowkidaar” (1974) that deserves to be better known among music lovers.

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)
ahhh
rehne do
chanda badli mein
aji rehne do
chanda badli mein
deedaar se
zyaada mazaa intezaar kaa
deedaar se
zyaada mazaa intezaar ka
haaye rehne do
chanda badli mein
aji rehne do
chanda badli mein
kuch tum tarso
kuch hum tarsen
dil dhadke
ankhiyaan tadpe
kabhi iss karwat
kabhi uss karwat
kabhi iss karwat
kabhi uss karwat
ye raat milan ki bheete
tho socho rang khilega kitna pyar ka
pyaar ka
deedaar se zyaada mazaa intezaar ka
haaye
rehne do
chanda badli mein
aji rehne do
chanda badli mein
chhod bhi do,
ab tod bhi do
chhod bhi do,
ab tod bhi do
ye jhoote paimaane
varna kya sochenge
meri aankhon ke maikhaane
aaj ki raaat na gaafil ho
aap na apna qaatil ho
iqraar se pehle
rang jame inkaar ka
inkaar ka
deedaar se zyaada mazaa intezaar ka
haaye
rehne do
chanda badli mein
aji rehne do chanda badli mein
kuchh aankh kahe
kuchh dil bole
ho raat jawaan
haule haule
jab naach naach ke thak jaaye
ye gunghroo paayal ki
to badhke saharaa le loon
main dildaar ka
dildaar ka
deedaar se zyaada mazaa intezaar ka
haaye
rehne do
chanda badli mein
aji rehne do
chanda badli mein
deedaar se zyadaa mazaa intezaar ka
haaye rehne do
chanda badli mein
aji rehne do
chanda badli mein
