Na darr sanam lagaa bhi le

Posted on: April 23, 2012

“Aakhri Daao” (1958) was a Movie Stars Production. It was directed by Mahesh Kaul. The movie had Nutan, Shekhar, Minoo Mumtaz, Shammi, Shobha Khote, Jeevan, Nazir Hussain, Kamal Kapoor, Leela Misra, Tuntun, Bhudo Advani, Johnny Walker, Badri Prasad etc in it.

Today the movie is remembered mainly for its songs.

I have discussed as many as five songs from this movie and that means two more songs from this movie are yet to be discussed.

Here is one of the remaining songs from the movie.

When I listened to the song and watched the clip, I realised that this song in fact is the title song of the movie ! This song is picturised as a club/ bar dance song which was a popular genre of song those days. The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Minu Mumtaz who lip syncs this song in a gambling den, exhortiing gamblers to gamble because it is their lucky day today and they will win. What an enticing advertisement for the potential gamblers of the world ! This is the gambling den, so all baddies of the movies have naturally assembled there and some evil things may be in the offing.

Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. The music sounds so much like O P Nayyar’s but in reality it is composed by Madan Mohan.

I became aware of this song only just now. What a song it is. It has to be one of the first songs of this nature for Asha Bhonsle.

Song-Na darr sanam laga bhi le(Aakhri Daao)(1958) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Madan Mohan

Lyrics

Na darr sanam
laga bhi le
ke teri zindagi ka hai
ye aakhri daao
aakhri daao
na darr sanam
laga bhi le
ke teri zindagi ka hai
ye aakhri daao
aakhri daao
na darr sanam
eh
laga bhi le

choome tere haath ko
aaj kaamyaabiyaan
jeetata chala hi jaa
baaziyon pe baaziyaan
choome tere haath ko
aaj kaamyaabiyaan
jeetata chala hi jaa
baaziyon pe baaziyaan
badhke haath maar
arre hogi sabki haar
tera sitaara aaj kal hai
sun teri kasam
na darr sanam
eh
laga bhi le
ke teri zindagi ka hai
ye aakhri daao
aakhri daao
na darr sanam
eh
laga bhi le

tere dil mein dhadkanen
mere lab pe geet hain
jeet ek teri nahin
ye meri bhi jeet hai
tere dil mein dhadkanen
mere lab pe geet hain
jeet ek teri nahin
ye meri bhi jeet hai
milke jeetate hain
aji haarte nahin
banengi mil ke kismaten
na kar zara bhi gham
na darr sanam
eh
laga bhi le
ke teri zindagi ka hai
ye aakhri daao
aakhri daao
na darr sanam
laga bhi le

jo na dekh paaye tu
dushmanon ke jaal ko
aa meri nigaah se
dekho sabki chaal ko
jo na dekh paaye tu
dushmanon ke jaal ko
aa meri nigaah se
dekho sabki chaal ko
yoon na sar jhuka
arre aa kareeb aa
na ladkhadaa
na dagnmaga
hain tere saath ham
Na darr sanam
eh
laga bhi le
ke teri zindagi ka hai
ye aakhri daao
aakhri daao
na darr sanam
eh
laga bhi le

I knew this song very well, But in between I almost forgot this song. How can I ???

During early cable t.v.days, Sahara T.v.Channel used to telecast this song, almost thrice a week, in its morning slot of b/w movie songs.

Thanks for reminding me this favourite of mine. Everyday I make it a point to not listen Asha ji and Lata ji intentinally , But they keep coming back to me everyday by this way.

I should have been born in 60`s to enjoy all the peroformances of these legends on BIG SCREEN and I would not have missed all these b/w movies containing A class Music. Its my bad luck that I had spent my childhood by listening to the music of substandard 80`s. SIGH….

Ashaji`s singing especially “EH”by throwing her voice,
Uhh Excellent,Sheer MAGIC. I am not having enough of it.

I have always loved this song and never forgot it.Sometimes when someone echos what appeals to you, you feel good at having company.:) Like Prakashchandra Ji mentioned the ‘ Eh’ from Ashaji has stayed entrenched in my memory. I too find it sheer Magic.

PrakshJi , I am fortunate to have lived through those magical years (in school and mad after HFM)

Recall ‘Hai unki woh nighahen’ from same movie? 🙂

Thank you K.S.Shenoy ji for company, Yes, all the songs from this movie are very good.
I envy you for spending your time through all those magical years. You are lucky. Hum tho Bud naseeb hain. We have to satisfy ourselves by watching on big screen “Tamma tamma loge” or “Dhak Dhak karne laga” or “Main tera tota, tu meri maina” or “Sarkhaiyo lo khatiyaa” or “Angnaa mein baabaa dwaare pe maa” or “main tho raste pe jaa raha tha..teri naani mare tho main kya karoon”
So much for the crass lyrics and filthy musical compositions in the name of comedy.

Further this song also reminds me of Tax Driver GEMS:
“Jeene do aur jeeyo chadthi jawaani ke din hai”
“Di jale tho jale, gham pale tho pale, kissi ki na sunn gaaye jaa”
