Ab to tum sang naina laage

Posted on: April 24, 2012

“Dhaake Ki Malmal” (1956) was a Nanda Films Production movie. It was produced and directed by J K Nanda. The movie had Kishore Kumar, Madhubala, Ulhas, Rajan Haksar, Jeevan, Jagdeep, Shyam Kumar, Sajjan, Raj Mehra,Om Prakash etc in it.

From the star cast, it appears quite a promising movie and judging by the music, this movie must have been quite a treat to watch. But unfortunately the movie appears to have been lost, since only the audio of songs from this movie are available and I have not seen any videos of this movie.

Take this song for instance. This song, which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and which I heard for the first time only just now is sweet song to listen to. I loved it from the very first hearing.

The song is written by Jaan Nisaar Akhtar and music is composed by O P Nayyar. From the starcast, it would seem that this song was picturised on Madhubala. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Song-Ab to tum sang naina laage (Dhaake Ki Malmal)(1956) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Jaan Nisaar Akhtar, MD-O P Nayyar

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

ab to tum sang
nainaa laage
dekhein kyaa ho aage aage…
ab to tum sang
nainaa laage
dekhein kyaa ho aage aage
ho more raajaaji
ho more rasiyaaji
ab to tum sang
naina laage
dekhein kyaa ho aage aage
ho more raajaaji
ho more rasiyaaji

dil ne naataa
pyaar ka jodaa…
tere liye maine
sab kuchch chhodaa…
dil ne naataa
pyaar ka jodaa
tere liye maine
sab kuchch chhodaa…
baitt rahi main to
aayenge rasiyaa
aayenge rasiyaa
o more rajaaji
o more rasiyaaji
ab to tum sang nainaa laage
dekhein kyaa ho aage aage
ho more rajaaji
ho more rasiyaaji

chaahoon main to
saath tumhaaraa
tum hi to ho mere
dil ka sahaaraa
chaahoon main to
saath tumhaaraa
tum hi to ho mere
dil ka sahaaraa
baithh rahi main to
aayenge rasiyaa
aayenge rasiyaa
o more rajaaaji
ho more rasiyaaji
ab to tum sang
nainaa laage
dekhein kyaa ho aage aage
ho more rajaaji
ho more rasiyaaji

A good song! Although Jaan Nisaar Akhtar is credited with the lyrics, the words did not impreess. The music was good and singing excellent. Use of ghunghroo was very noticeable. It seems the actress was dancing on this song, even it may be a mujra song. Use of words like “Rajaji” and “Rasiyaji” also suggests a kotha song. But the opening mukhda suggests differently. So I may be wrong.
