Apni apni biwi pe sabko guroor hai

Posted on: May 29, 2012

“Do Raaste”(1970) is a well known movie because this movie had Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz in it, with the stars of both of them being on the rise. This movie was produced and directed by Raj Khosla. The movie had Rajesh Khanna, Mumtaz, Balraj Sahni, Jayant, Veena, Mohan Choti, Birbal, Asit Sen, Randhir, Leela Misra, Bindu, Mehmood Junior, Kamini Kaushal, Prem Chopra etc in it.

Music of this movie was awesome, as could be expected in any movie starring Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz. This movie had six songs in it. Five of these songs have already been discussed in the blog.

Here is the sixth and final song from this movie.

This song is not picturised on the lead pair. This movie is a roadside tamasha song and it is picturised on Junior Mehmood and the song is picturised at the Gateway of India in Bombay. The song is about the fact that the wife, whatever her physical drawbacks (being dark complexion of skin, being overweight, or being short statured) does not matter to her husband and the biwi is a beauty queen as far as her husband is concerned. Indeed that is how it should be even if that is not always the case. A biwi who may be “deficient” in physical appearances is bound to have some outstanding qualities in other areas.

Most sources mention Usha Mangeshkar as the singer of this song, but the voice sounds more like Lata to me. So for once I seem to be in agreement with YT where Lata is mentioned as the singer unlike most other online sources. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.

The picturisation shows three husbands with their wives. I can identify the three husbands as Mukri, Rashid Khan and Johny Walker, but I am unable to identify the three biwis. I recall that this song was discussed in memsaab’s blog and the actors in this song were identified too, but at present I am unable to locate that page. I reqest our knowledgeable readers to help identify the actors figuring in the picturisation of this song.

The song is written by Anand Bakshi. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Song-Apni apni biwi pe sabko guroor hai (Do Raaste)(1970) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

Apni apni biwi pe
sab ko guroor hai
apni apni biwi pe
sab ko guroor hai
jaisi bhi hai biwi
shauhar ke liye hoor hai
apni apni biwi pe
sab ko guroor hai

kaali jiski biwi
wo logon se ye boley
kaali jiski biwi
wo logon se ye boley
aji logon se ye boley
jee logon se ye boley
Laila bhi thhi kaali
ye kissa mashhoor hai
Laila bhi thhi kaali
ye kissa mashhoor hai
apni apni biwi pe
sab ko guroor hai

moti jiski biwi
wo logon se ye boley
moti jiski biwi
wo logon se ye boley
aji logon se ye boley
haan logon se ye boley
khaate peete ghar ki hai
ranjo gham se door hai
khaate peete ghar ki hai
ranjo gham se door hai
apni apni biwi pe
sab ko guroor hai

thhingni jiski biwi
wo logon se ye boley
thhingni jiski biwi
wo logon se ye boley
aji logon se ye boley
haan logon se ye boley
oonche ghar se aayi hai
chhota kad zuroor hai
oonche ghar se aayi hai
chhota kad zuroor hai
apni apni biwi pe
sab ko guroor hai
jaisi bhi hai biwi
shauhar ke liye hoor hai

Thanks for this information. I do not know how Usha Mangeshkar got credited as the singer of this song in several sites.

I think its a little confusing when u listen to the song, cause probably Lata sang it a little differently for a kid, Junior Mehmood. Another factor is while Lata did sing a few “kid songs” with Geeta Dutt, etc in 50s, mostly such songs were left for Asha and Usha. So most people might think it would be Usha. Like I said, LP record does show that its Lata. I wanted to make sure there wasnt a mistake on LP, but unfortunately the movie video credits dont list the name of singers, which is a bit unusual.

Atul ji,
Do Raaste-1969 was based on the famous Marathi Novel ‘Neelambari’ by Mr. Chandrakant Kakodkar.
The above song is sung by USHA MANGESHKAR,as per HFGK.

Yes, HFGK and several other sources mention it as sung by Usha Mangeshkar, but the voice sounds like Lata. Usha Mangeshkar has a distinctive and unmistakable kind of voice and this song does not have that kind of voice.

The girl in black face wasn’t ever identified, but someone said that Johnny W’s wife (in the pink sari) is Saroj Khan. The other in blue is Indira Bansal as someone said above 🙂
