# Superstar Child Artist – Junior Mehmood # 11
——————————————————–
Welcome all to this today’s post which is the final post in this series.
And, before moving to this post, first, I would like to thank Atul ji and Sudhir ji for giving me this opportunity to present this series.
So far, we had the following ten posts in this series earlier.
So far, we have enjoyed the above ten songs in this series.
Today’s song is from the ‘1974’ movie ‘Thokar’.
But before that let us have a recap on this series.
I had watched The movie ‘Rivaaz-1972’ during my childhood in my childhood days. One of its songs ‘jalaa do jalaa do duniya ko jalaa do’ had a lasting impression on my mind.
When I became a contributor to our blog, I shared this song and one other song a Rafi-Asha duet from this movie ‘Rivaaj-1972’. During preparation for these songs, I came across the song ‘lagey koi lottery’ lip synced by Junior Mehmood on screen and sung by Rafi Saab.
That made me curious to know if there were more such songs where Rafi Saab’s voice was used for Junior Mehmood. To know more about it I searched for the contact number of Junior Mehmood and on one fine day I had the chance to speak to him in person. And what a memorable day it was for me!!
I was excited and very happy on that day when I got this opportunity to speak to him. I have already shared about my discussion with him and the songs of Rafi Saab for him, which he himself noted to me, in this post here.
So, initially it started with ‘Rafi sings for Junior Mehmood’, and further got included songs by other singers for Junior Mehmood. I also had my memories of Junior Mehmood movies and his ‘stage programs’ in those years of my childhood.
After I spoke to him, it became a routine for me to send birthday wishes to him on his birthday every year and send him greetings on festivals.
I also spoke to him a few times in between these years. I will never forget the way he responds to my calls always and how humble and down to earth he is. He always generously shares information whenever I speak to him.
When I spoke to him about the song ‘aisa banoonga actor main yaaron’, I asked him how he felt when he was doing mimicry of all those great actors?
He said that though he did not exactly remember many thingsbut overall, it was an exciting experience to get positive response from people all over and that they showered appreciation and love on him.
In one of my earlier posts in this series I had given the list of his filmography from 1967 to 1970 in this post here. That time I had written that I plan to present the list of his movies from 1971 and onwards in future posts to come.
I am presenting this list for 1971 and onwards up to 1980 here today. I have noted and compiled the details with the help of HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980).

For the movie ‘Archana-1973’ the details in HFGK does not mention the name of Junior Mehmood in the star-cast, however since I have presented a song from this movie, I was aware of Junior Mehmood’s appearance in this movie.
The above lists are open for correction/addition, if any, and scrutiny by knowledgeable readers.
(List of movies for 1981 and onwards needs to be compiled I will try to bring that here in future as and when I get the opportunity to present an article here.)

# Superstar Child Artist – Junior Mehmood # 10
——————————————————–
Welcome all to the tenth post under this series where we are discussing songs picturised on Junior Mehmood.
We have so far enjoyed songs sung by Mohd Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Hemlata and Shanti Mathur and picturised on Junior Mehmood. All the song performances showcased the talent of Junior Mehmood, as a child-star, where he had performed and entertained movie-watchers. (movie-goers 😊).
In today’s song we will watch Junior Mehmood performing on a ‘parody song’.
This song is from the movie ‘Do Bachche Dus Haath’ of the year 1972.
While preparing this post I come across through some posters of this movie where they mentioned ‘for the first time Junior Mehmood as James Bond’. That is more than sufficient to tell us how popular Junior Mehmood was during those years.
I had an opportunity to speak to him again and I asked him about his role in this movie how he remembers it now. He was as usual very passionate while talking about his role, which was of a ‘detective’ type, where the circumstances lead him helping a small girl and saving her from the ‘goondas’.
As he was talking about this movie and his role, I noted that he still remembered the story of this movie and, he also pointed out to me that Subhash Ghai was the lead hero in this movie. That tells us how deeply he got involved and played the roles given to him.
This fact also be noted in his interviews available on ‘YouTube’.
‘Do Bachche Dus Haath -1972’ was directed by Parvez for ‘Sargam Chitra’. It was produced by S.J. Rajdev. It had Mehmood Junior, Anupama, Subhash Ghai, Ramesh Deo, K.N. Singh, N.A. Ansari, Satyadeep and Premnath (in special appearance).
They were supported by Sajjan, Chandrima Bhaduri, Asit Sen, Jayshree T., and Dog Rexy and Baby Pinky, also featuring Indira Bansal, Imtiaz, Uma Dutt, Anant Tiwari, Uma Khosla, Rajni Bala, Sopariwala, Sunder, Abdul Raut, Khan, Haroon, Jillani, Hasan, Mama, Musa, Khalid, Mukrani, Hamid, Fatima Begam, Mahesh Kumar and others.
Ayaz was the writer of this movie and editing of this movie was done by Kantibhai Shukla.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 23.09.1972.
‘Do Bachche Dus Haath -1972’ had four songs all written by Verma Malik. Music for this movie was composed by Sonik Omi.
Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Sushma Shreshtha and Omi had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
Here is the list of songs appearing in this movie.
SNo | Song Title | Singer/s |
---|---|---|
01 | Mar gayi, mar gayi, mar gayi, main to haay rabba | Asha Bhonsle |
02 | Chal lagaa le sutta, yah jag jhoothha | Asha Bhonsle, chorus |
03 | Kaan mein jhumkaa, chaal mein thumkaa (parody song) – | |
04 | Honthh gulaabi kurtaa laal, umr hai solah satraa saal | Kishore Kumar |
HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) does not mention the name of the singers. However, I guess that the singer for today’s song must be Sushma Shreshtha and Omi (of Sonik-Omi).
Lyrics for today’s song are by Verma Malik and music is composed by Sonik-Omi.
Let us now enjoy today’s song where Junior Mehmood the ‘Superstar Child Artist’ is is seen playing a ‘female naachnewaali’, and we can see baby Pinky and many others in the picturisation of this song …
With today’s song the movie ‘Do Bachche Dus Haath-1972’ makes its debut on the blog.

# Superstar Child Artist – Junior Mehmood # 9
——————————————————–
Welcome all to the nineth article in this series. In the previous eight posts we have seen songs sung by different singers for Junior Mehmood during late sixtees and early seventees when he was a ‘superstar child sensation’.
The eight songs that we listened earlier were sung by Mohd Rafi(four songs), Lata Mangeshkar(one), Hemlata(one), Shanti Mathur(one) and Asha Bhonsle(one).
Tis series began by exploring songs sung by Rafi Saab for Junior Mehmood when he was ‘child artist and still growing’. Simultaneously we also looked at songs sung by female singers for Junior Mehmood as a ‘child artist’.
It would be interesting to know if there is any song hich as sung by Junior Mehmood for himself. (I am not sure, knowledgeable readers can enlighten us).
Today’s song is one such song, not a full song though, but having few lines sung by Junior Mehmood. In this song he is performing with Manoj Kumar, Nutan, Mohan Choti, Birbal and others.
This song is from the ‘1970’ movie ‘Yaadgaar’.
‘Yaadgaar-1970’ was directed by S. Ram Sharma for ‘Kunal Chitra, Bombay’. It had Nutan, Manoj Kumar, Pran, Prem Chopra, Kamini Kaushal, Junior Mehmood, Madan Puri, Tiwari, Mohan Choti, Lalita Chatterjee, Asit Sen, Lakshmi Chhaya, Shammi, Man Mohan, Polsan, Jayshree, Kuljeet, Renu, Raj Kishore, Harbans Pape, Kirti Behl, Manohar, Naidu, Birbal, Hansraj, Shrinath, Mohan Shery, Dubey, Sabina, Manohar Gosvai, Kesho Rana, Brahm Bharadwaj, Sobti, Alija, Genius, Darshan M., Ravikant, Chandra, Mohan Chhotu, Narbada Shankar, Ramlal and others.
This movie had six songs written by Indeevar and Verma Malik (three songs each).
(One song ‘ik taaraa boley’ is in two parts and it is considered as two songs).
Here is the list of songs of this movie as given in HFGK Vol- IV (1961-1970),
SNo | Song Title | Singer/s | Posted On |

06 | Jis path pe chalaa us path pe mujhe aanchal to bichhaane de… mujhe saath to aane de | Lata Mangeshkar | 28.11.2011 |
Music for this film was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.
As we can see fromthe above table, four songs (including one multiple version song) from this movie have been posted on the blog.
Today’s song is the fifth song of this movie ‘Yaadgaar-1970’ to be posted here on the blog. This will take the movie within striking distance from ‘Yippeeee-land’.
Let us now listen to today’s song.
The situation of the song is self-explanatory. On screen is performed by Manoj Kumar, Nutan, Mohan Choti, Birbal, Junior Mehmood and Kuljeet (I guess the actor lip syncing for Manhar’s voice).
Mahendra Kapoor, Manhar Udhas, Nutan, Junior Mehmood and Birbal have given their voices in this song.
Lyrics are by Verma Malik and music is composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.
Over to the song now …

# Superstar Child Artist – Junior Mehmood # 8
——————————————————–
Welcome all to this eighth post in this series where we are discussing songs performed by Junior Mehmood as a ‘superstar child artist’.
So far, the following seven songs in this series have been discussed on the blog earlier.
1) lagey koi lottery koi jackpot lagey
2) Na koi paisa na ilm banaao bambai mein film
4) Birha ki rain sooni sooni sejariya
5) Aisa banoonga actor main yaaron
6) Ham hi jaanen ek torey manwa ki peer
7) Janamdin tujhko mubaraak ho
Today’s song is from the 1970 movie ‘Bachpan’.
As mentioned in the earlier posts under this series, ‘Naunihaal-1967’ was the first released movie of child artist Junior Mehmood.
He went on to act in many movies as a child artist then. He was the most loved child artist in those years of end-sixties to mid-seventies.
As a child artist Junior Mehmood achieved a ‘Superstar’ like status. He got to perform on many songs or rather many songs were picturised on him during those days.
We are going to enjoy one such song of Junior Mehmood as a child artist from the movie ‘Bachpan-1970’. The today’s wonderful entertaining song is performed by Junior Mehmood and other child artist including Sachin and Naeem (?) and many others.
This song is a different from his’ other songs as a child artist, because here he is not doing any mimicry of other actors or his guru, but in today’s song he is performing as a ‘girl’ or in a ‘female’ get-up.
In today’s song we see all the child artists (mentioned above) are singing and dancing in a police station where Sanjeev Kumar is in a lock-up. From the lyrics of this song we can guess that all these children have a plan to divert the attention of the on-duty police staff in their singing-dancing activities so that Sanjeev Kumar is able to escape from their custody.
The lyrics, music and singing of this song is very lively and entertaining to watch as Junior Mehmood, Sachin performs by lip syncing in Lata Mangeshkar’s voice and lead other children in the performance.
In an interview with Zarina Wahab (available here) Junior Mehmood had mentioned this song as his most favourite song among all the songs picturised on him.
‘Bachpan’ was directed by K.P. Atma for ‘Atma Arts Universal, Bombay’. K.P. Atma co-produced this movie with K.H. Rao. It had Sanjeev Kumar, Master Sachin, Junior Mehmood, Shahid, Anwar Hussain, Mukri, Sunder, Joginder, Baldev Mehta, Keshto Mukherji, Aruna Irani, Sulochana Chatterjee, Tabassum, Pratima Devi, Baby Gayatri, Baby Guddi, Master Alankar, Naeem and Tanuja.
Story of this movie was written by K.P. Atma. Screenplay and dialogues were written by Raj Baldev Raj. Editing of this movie was done by Shivaji Awdhut.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 24.09.1970.
This movie had total six songs which were written by Anand Bakshi and composed to music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd Rafi, and P. Susheela were the playback singers for the songs in this movie.
Three songs from the movie ‘Bachpan-1970’ have been posted earlier on the blog. Today’s song is the fourth song from this movie to be posted on the blog.

# Superstar Child Artist – Junior Mehmood # 7
——————————————————–
Today 15th November 2020 is the sixty-fourth birthday of actor Junior Mehmood.
On this occasion here is a ‘birthday’ song which he is performing for other ‘child artists birthday’ in the movie while doing jigs in his own unimitable style.
I had earlier planned to send an older write-up with a song from ‘Bachpan-1969’, which I had sent last year and was not posted. However I am holding it for the future now. Because it is linked with a task now. 😊
Yesterday we celebrated children’s day and enjoyed this song. This song is picturised on various child artists including Junior Mehmood. However as this was his first released movie and he was yet to become a ‘child superstar’ at that time. I did not include this song in this series and rather sent it separately for ‘children’s day’ celebration. I guess the songs from this movie ‘Naunihal-1967’ could be the first instance of Jr Mehmood performing on songs.
Later on, he went on to act in many movies as a child artist and he was very popular among people like me who were born and growing during those years of late sixties and early seventies. He was the most loved child artist of that era.
His acting career continued even as an adult actor. However, he didn’t get the same success and adulation in movies as an adult actor what he received as a ‘child artist’.
As a child artist Junior Mehmood achieved a ‘Superstar’ like status. Many songs were picturised on him wherein he would copy many stars and his guru the famous comedian Mehmood.
So far, we have enjoyed the following six songs in this series;
1) lagey koi lottery koi jackpot lagey
2) Na koi paisa na ilm banaao bambai mein film
4) Birha ki rain sooni sooni sejariya
5) Aisa banoonga actor main yaaron
6) Ham hi jaanen ek torey manwa ki peer
I have marked three more songs of him (brought to my notice by our team members Peevesie’s Mom ji and Prakash ji) for presentation in future posts.
I have mentioned it in one of my earlier post in this series that there could be more songs picturised on him and we will try to bring them here and then compile the list of total songs picturised on him.
Very recently I came across today’s song. This is from the ‘1973’ movie ‘Archana’.
One very popular song from this movie has been posted on the blog on 04.01.2012. I was surprised to see that the post on this popular song has attracted no comments so far.
Perhaps that is why our Atul ji has said this in one of his post here;
“I wonder if someone has ever tried to analyse why people like some songs and not other songs. Why do some songs become timeless classics while others are forgotten after their initial run?”
Coming back to today’s song now let us have the details about this movie in brief.
‘Archana-1973’ was directed by for ‘Vikram Pictures’ Bombay. It had Mala Sinha, Sanjeev Kumar, Snehlata with Jagdeep, Manmohan Krishna, Bobby, Jagridar, V. Gopal, Sulochana, Shabnam, Madhu, Sushila, Shibana and Om Prakash and others.
Jr Mehmood makes a special appearance in this movie.
Story of this movie was written by Prof. Tamhane, and screenplay was written by Madhusudan Kalaelakar.
Dialogues for this movie were written by Anand Romani, editing of this movie was done by Govind Dalwadi.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 1st October’1973.
This movie has six songs written by Hasrat Jaipuri, Indeevar and Neeraj.
Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Mohd Rafi and Manna Dey give their voices to the songs in movie.
Music for this movie was composed by Shankar-Jaikishan. (coincidentally, nowadays I am incidentally coming across many songs of Shankar-Jaikishan some of them heard earlier and some new for me.
Here is the list of these six songs as per HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980);
S.No. | Song Title | Lyricist | Posted on |
---|---|---|---|
01 | Jaise …. preetam se pyaar badhha jaaye | Hasrat Jaipuri | |
02 | Jab ham hain tere saath… janamdin tujhko | Indeevar | |
03 | Jiyaa mein laaga more baan preet ka | Hasrat Jaipuri | |
04 | Tan mann tere rang rangoongee | Neeraj 04.01.2012 | |
05 | Jaane kis roop ki jaadubhari parchhaayi ho | Hasrat Jaipuri | |
06 | Jo dil mein chubha… ab bas mein kahaan | Hasrat Jaipuri/Indeevar |
Let us now enjoy today’s song where many child artists are seen.
Let us wish Junior Mehmood a ‘very happy birthday today’ and a ‘healthy, peaceful and entertaining’ life ahead.
Today’s song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is written by Indeevar. Music is composed by Shankar-Jaikishan.

janamdin tujhko mubaarak ho o
jab ham hain tere saath
phir darne ki kya baat
janamdin tujhko mubaarak ho o
janamdin tujhko mubaarak ho o
naam likha jaaye taaron mein
kaam tu karna aise ae
haan kaam tu karna aise ae
tujhe dhoondhti phir teri maa
aayegi nahin kaise ae
haan aayegi nahin kaise ae
arey de de gham ko maat
ham sab ki duaa tere saath
janamdin tujhko mubaarak ho o o

Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 3
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Okay, okay, just before you sit up and ask again – “ये क्या हो रहा है”, a quick reminder that we are into this series of repeat songs. This is the third episode today.
There are well known, as well as obscure, instances existing in which the reused songs appear in the list of the songs of the latter film. The reuse listing of the song can appear as it is – a few examples being,
- “Gori Zulm Karey Zulf Ka Bikhar Jaana” – this song appears in the listings for the film ‘Main Aur Mera Bhai’ (1961) and the film ‘Pyaar Banaa Afsaana’, an unreleased film from 1960s.
- The four songs of the film ‘Ram Rajya’ of 1943 are reused in the film ‘Ramayan’ of 1954
“Beena Madhur-Madhur Kachhu Bol…”
“Ajab Vidhi Ka lekh Kisi Se Padha Nahi Jaaye…”
“Jhoole Mein Jhool Laal, Jhool Tu Jhool…”
“Tyagmayi Tu Gayi, Teri Amar Bhaawna…”
Note: The music director for both films is same – Shankar Rao Vyas; and the lyricist of these four songs is also the same – Ramesh Gupta.
- “Beeti Jaat Barkha Ritu Saajan Nahin Aaye” – this song appears in the listings for the film ‘Muraad’ (1939) and the film ‘Dharam Bandhan’ (1940).
- Four songs of an unreleased film ‘Parda’ from late 1940s are reused in the film ‘Achhaa ji’ of 1950
‘Taqraar Ko Badal Do Pyaar Mein, Na Karo Chhed Bekaar Mein…’
‘Bhool Hai Kisi Ko Apnana, Vichaaron Mein Basana…’
‘Kisi Ke Bholepan Ne… Mere Mann Ko Kheencha…’
‘Bhar Jaaye Aasmaan To Aahon Ki Kya Khata…’
Note: The lyricist (Indiwar) and music director (Shyam Babu Pathak) are the same. The film director (SH Thirani) is also the same.
- Six songs of the 1957 film ‘Pawanputra Hanuman’ have been reused in the 1969 film ‘Hanuman Chalisa’.
- Strange occurrence – two films of the same year, 1958 – ‘Rifle Girl’ and ‘Miss Toofaan Mail’ share the song – “Bheegi Hawa Mausam Jawaan, Masti Mein Dooba Saara Jahaan…”.
- Rare occurrence, the same song is used in three films. The song is “Bhiksha De De Maiya Pingla, Jogi Khada Hai Dwaar…”. The films are ‘Bharthari’ (1944), ‘Raajyogi Bharthari’ (1954), and ‘Gopichand Bharthari’ (1965). Lyricist identified for these songs is Pandit Indra.
- The song “Bolo Jaywantrao Ek Naam Prem Bhara. . .” appears in ‘Mera Imaan’ (1934) and ‘Swadesh Dewa’ (1946).
- Interesting re-use – the song “Phool Chun Le Mere Baalam Ki Jaane Kab Daal Jhuke” appears in ‘Naubahaar’ of 1952 and then again in ‘Firdaus’ of 1953. Artist combination is the same – Sahir, Roshan, Lata.
- Another one – “Baat Chalat Nai Chunari Rang Daali” – appears in film ‘Ladki’ of 1953 and then again in ‘Rani Roopmati’ of 1959.
Then there are films with the same list of songs.
- ‘Satyanarayan’ of 1948 and ‘Bhikhaari’ of 1949
- ‘Sushila’ of 1966 and ‘Subah Zaroor Aayegi’ of 1977
- ‘Amar Kahaani’ of 1949 and ‘Kanchan’ of 1955
- ‘Sipaahi’ of 1941 and ‘Jangi Jawaani’ of 1943
- ‘Suhaana Geet’ of 1941 and ‘Toote Dil’ of 1947
- ‘Ram Bhakti’ of 1958 and ‘Bhakt Raaj’ of 1950
- ‘Paanch Dushman’ of 1973 and ‘Daulat Ke Dushman’ of 1987
Although not specifically confirmed, in most cases, the above list of film pairs with all songs the same, the situation is that the latter film is a somewhat modified, re-certified and re-released version of the earlier film.
The above sampling is in no way exhaustive. More such instances may be discovered by a more meticulous review of the song lists in Geet Kosh.
But then, this observation has also to be annotated by saying that there are exceptions. There are many known cases where the repeat songs do not appear in the official list of songs of the film. The song may have been used as is without any modifications. The song may be used as an abridged version i.e. the stanzas used in repeat form are less than the original version. Or even when the song may be used quite differently.
These repeat instances of songs do not appear in the list of songs of the latter film. This is confirmed by a quick review of the Geet Kosh listings, which are primarily based on the information from the film booklets, and/or information printed on the gramophone records – 78 rpm records or LPs/EPs. Casual reuse, we may call it. Of course, ownership / copyright / permissions etc. are things that have to be taken care of. But it is always fun to be watching a film (especially when watching for the first time), and one is suddenly confronted with an unexpected song. The song already has a life and existence of its own. And it has its own popularity and following. All of a sudden out of the blue, the song will make a surprise appearance in another film, in another time. And one is simply – wow, एसा भी होता है – such things happen too.
The first song in this series – “Aa Ja Re Pardesi. . .” belongs to this category. As does this fun song that I bring to your notice today. An iconic song – a very typical and very strongly a Mehmood song, from the earlier film ‘Gumnaam’ from 1965, makes an unexpected and surprise appearance in the 1968 film ‘Brahmchaari’. This time around, the song is performed by the Junior incarnation of Mehmood, and he has done a superlative job of presenting this song. This song does not appear in the list of songs of the film ‘Brahmchaari’, and hence, when it appears in the film, the mind takes a double take – okay wow, this song, here.
The situation can be labeled as a ‘male-child item song’ 🙂 . It is just there, does not really add to the storyline content of the film. The children of Shammi Kapoor’s private orphanage are together, along with Mohan Choti, the handy man around the house, and Rajshri, who has descended on to this ‘family’ as a distraught outsider with no place to go. The song is heard on a gramophone player, on which the 78 rpm record is playing.
As I said earlier, Junior Mehmood has done a remarkable job performing this song, at that age. Born in 1956, he was all of 12 years old when he performed this song. A little short in height for his age, this performance is really lovable.
This video clip contains two stanzas, one less from the original three. However, my hunch is that all three were initially included when ‘Brahmchaari’ was released. In this video clip also, as the action moves from the first to the second stanza, there is slight jump in the visual, indicating there might have been a cut made – and the middle stanza was deleted later, for whatever reason.
Avinash ji has been posting a mini series on Junior Mehmood performances in Hindi films, so I will skip getting into more details about this fun child artist. Somehow the natural transformation, as these child artists move from childhood to adolescence to adulthood, does not seem to happen. The success of what their performance is, and the kudos it has drawn, continues to overshadow this required transformation as one grows in years. Very few examples are where an artist of proven merit in child roles has also made a successful career once having grown up. But that discussion is maybe another article, or another series.
Meanwhile, enjoy this really likeable performance, which I am sure will prompt you to go and take a look at the original ‘Gumnaam’ song also. I myself sure did.

# Superstar Child Artist – Jr. Mehmood # 6
————————————————–
(Rafi Sings for Jr. Mehmood # 4)
————————————-
Welcome all to this post of today where we are going to enjoy a song from the 1973 movie ‘Ek Naari Do Roop’.
‘Ek Naari Do Roop-1973’ was directed by Madhusudan for ‘Co-operative Pictures’.
It was produced by S. Srivastava and presented by Shatrughan Sinha.
This movie had Shatrughan Sinha, Rashmi, Iftekhar, Madan Puri, Mehmood Junior, Malika, Lalita Kumar, Kajal, Rajni, Sapru, Chaman Puri, Honey Chhaya, Maruti, Moolchand, Qureshi, Ranvir Raj, Subhash, Master, Sheroo, Ratan, Chikoo, with Nadira and Roopesh Kumar. Asha Sachdev makes a special appearance in this movie.
Screenplay and Dialogues of this movie were written by Madhusudan. Editing of this movie was done by Kamlakar with Babubhai Shah as Assistant.
This movie had total five songs in it.
Lyrics of the songs of this movie were written by Naqsh Lyallpuri and Asad Bhopali. (Naqsh Lyallpuri had penned three songs while two songs were penned by Asad Bhopali including <a href="Dil ka soona saaz taraana dhoondhega(Ek naari do roop)(1973)“>the one most well known and popular song from this movie. And incidentally both the songs penned by Asad Bhopali for this movie were sung by Rafi Saab).
So far, three songs from this movie have been posted on the blog, and today’s song will be the fourth song from this movie being posted on the blog.
Asha Bhonsle, Mohd Rafi and Kishore Kumar have given their voices to the songs in this movie.
Music for this movie was composed by Ganesh.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 15.09.1973…
I have not watched this movie so can’t say much about its performance of other trivia associated with this movie. However, from the part of this movie that I have watched, I can say that this movie must be an interesting movie to watch.
‘Ek Naari Do Roop-1973’ had total five songs in it of which three songs have already been posted earlier. After posting the third song from this movie Atul ji had mentioned that he wants to take movie to ‘Yippeeee’dom’ at the earliest possible. 😊
I had then requested him that one song will be shared by me as it was planned by me for this series almost four and half years back. (however, the video or audio of this song was not available then and even now I could not find it’s audio link. It is because one of our most respected and beloved members that we have the video of this song for our enjoyment).
Also, I would like to thank Atul ji for waiting and allow me to share this song here (the first song from this movie to be posted on the blog was naturally the most known song from this movie i.e. ‘dil ka soona saaz taraana dhoondhega’, and it was posted on the 31.07.2008).
In the previous post under this series we have enjoyed the song ‘aisa banoonga actor main yaaron’ … from the movie ‘Ghar Ghar Ki Kahaani-1970’. We had also gone through the filmography of Junior Mehmood from 1967 to 1970.
Today’s song is sung by Rafi Saab and it is picturised on Junior Mehmood and others.
With this song all the songs sung by Rafi Saab for Junior Mehmood stands covered, however one more song sung by Rafi Saab is there where Junior Mehmood is present without lip-syncing the song. This information was also shared by Junior Mehmood himself during my first conversation with him.
Following are the other three songs sung by Rafi Saab for Junior Mehmood;
Lagey koi lottery koi jackpot lagey
Birha ki rain sooni sooni sejariya
I think there could be more songs (one I have noted) sung by other singers for Junior Mehmood which we have to explore, and thus I am not concluding this series yet. Also, in the next post we can have a look on filmography of Junior Mehmood from 1971-1980.
Lyrics for the today’s song are by Asad Bhopali and music is composed by Ganesh.
This song, may not be that much popular, is still a nice entertaining and hummable song from this movie.
Let us now enjoy today’s song …

# Superstar Child Artist – Jr. Mehmood # 5
—————————————————————————
Welcome all to this fifth article in this series, where I am presenting songs picturised on Superstar Child Artist Junior Mehmood and simultaneously exploring his filmography along with his biographical information too.
So far, we have enjoyed the following songs under this series;
Lagey koi lottery koi jackpot lagey
Birha ki rain sooni sooni sejariya
As I have mentioned in my articles earlier, Junior Mehmood was a familiar name for us children who were growing and still young in the years of the ‘seventies’, and he was the most loved ‘child artist’ in those years of early seventies.
And because of those memories and nostalgia associated with the movies he acted, some of the songs picturised on him became a part of my permanent memory.
Today’s song is one such song and which surprisingly have remained to be posted on the blog so far.
Naeem Sayyad whom we know by the name of Junior Mehmood was born on 15th November’1956 in a middle-class family in Mumbai. His father was a railway engine driver in the railways and Naeem was among the six siblings in the family.
His elder brother was a photographer and used to work for films and during one such shoot when little Naeem accompanied him to watch the shooting it so happened that when a child star working in the movie ‘Kitna Naazuk Hai Dil’ (shelved) was not able to deliver his dialogues properly that little Naeem took a dig at him saying ‘you cannot even speak these simple lines’. The director of the movie was present there and he asked little Naeem if he can speak those lines without mistake and there little Naeem got his first break to work in Hindi movies and the rest is history, as he was noticed (on the sets of ‘Suhaag Raat-1968’) by the great comedian Mehmood who not only give his name to him and recommended him to many producers/directors. Thereafter it was not looking back for Junior Mehmood and he had gone on to become the most famous and beloved ‘child artist’ during those years and also one of the richest among other junior artists then.
Junior Mehmood celebrated his 62nd birth anniversary during last month (15th November) and though I personally wished him on his birthday on the 14th evening itself I got late in sending this article for the blog due to some hectic work schedule at workplace. (I also apologise to our Editors for the delay on my part in sending this article to them, even though I had sent them a message of sending the article then).
Well, coming back to the today’s song, it is from the 1970 movie ‘Ghar Ghar Ki Kahaani’.
Yes, the movie which is mostly famous for its song ‘samaa hai suhaana suhaana, nashe mein jahaan hai’. And very aptly this movie was launched with this song on the blog ( almost ten years back now 🙂 ) in 2009.
I also mentioned in my earlier articles under this series that I am trying to list out the filmography of Junior Mehmood since I found that the filmography mentioned by various sources had some discrepancies in it.
‘Naunihaal-1967’ was his first released movie.
He shot to fame with his performance in ‘Bramhachari-1968’ wherein he also performed on Mehmood’s ‘ham kaale hain to kya hua’ (from ‘Gumnaam-1965’).
Mehmood was his ‘Guru’.
In ‘1971’ he again performed on Mehmood’s famous ‘Mehbooba mehbooba bana leo mijhe dulha’ (from ‘Sadhu Aur Shaitaan-1968’) in the movie ‘Johar Mehmood in Hong Kong’ wherein Mehmood and I.S. Johar were the main leads.
I have mentioned the above in my earlier article in this series here.
We also saw him repeating Mehmood’s ‘Hamjoli-1966’ act in the song ‘birha ki rain sooni sooni sejariya’, which was covered in the previous article in this series.
However, during the preparation of today’s article I came across a link from the movie ‘Baalak-1969’ where Junior Mehmood is performing on Shashi Kapoor’s ‘Affo Khudaa’ from the 1965 movie ‘Jab Jab Phool Khile’. I am giving this link for interested readers to watch it here (just watch it and enjoy 🙂 ).
In the song being presented today we can see him doing a ‘Shammi Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Mehmood’ 😊
From 1967 to 1970 he acted in twenty-three movies as mentioned in the table given below.
And from this list we can guess how popular he was in those years.
(The HFGK Vol IV (1961-1970) does not mention the release dates of the movies so it is difficult to arrange the movie according to their date of release unless otherwise I watch each movie and note down its date of release from its certificate.)
Sno | Movie Name | Year |
---|---|---|
1 | Naunihaal | 1967 |
2 | Gunehgaar | 1967 |
3 | Parivaar | 1967 |
4 | Brahmachari | 1968 |
5 | Farishta | 1968 |
6 | Sangharsh | 1968 |
7 | Suhaag Raat | 1968 |
8 | Vaasna | 1968 |
9 | Anjaana | 1969 |
10 | Baalak | 1969 |
11 | Chanda Aur Bijli | 1969 |
12 | Do Raaste | 1969 |
13 | Nateeja | 1969 |
14 | Pyaar Hi Pyaar | 1969 |
15 | Raja Saab | 1969 |
16 | Simla Road | 1969 |
17 | Vishwas | 1969 |
18 | Aan Milo Sajna | 1970 |
19 | Bachpan | 1970 |
20 | Ghar Ghar Ki Kahaani | 1970 |
21 | Harishchandra Taramati | 1970 |

‘Ghar Ghar Ki Kahaani-1970’ was directed by T. Prakash Rao for ‘Vijaya International, Bombay’.
It was produced by B. Nagi Reddi & Chakrapani.
It had Balraj Sahni, Nirupa Roy, Bharati, Gajanan Jagirdar, Sulochana Chatterjee, Shabnam, Maruti, Praveen Pal, Jalal Agha and Rakesh Roshan with Mahesh Kumar, Baby Sonia, Master Ripple and Junior Mehmood and supported by many others.
Om Prakash, Jagdeep and Shashikala made a ‘guest appearance’ in this movie.
The story of this movie was written by Poovanan M.A while the dialogues were written by Inder Raj Anand. Editing of this movie was done by C.P. Jamboolingam.
This movie had total five songs written by Rajinder Krishan (2), Hasrat Jaipuri (2) and Qamal Jalalabadi (1).
Music for this movie was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.
Hemlata, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Mahendra Kapoor had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
(going by the titles of this movie I guess it was passed by the Censor Board on 04.11.1970) …
This movie ‘Ghar Ghar Ki Kahaani-1970’ is important from the point of view of Junior Mehmood films because he was nominated for the National Award for the best child actor for this movie. However, it awarded to Rishi Kapoor for the movie ‘Mera Naam Joker-1970’.
I was curious to know how he had felt that time and want to know from Junior Mehmood himself. When asked about it, he was very humble to say that it was a quite happy moment in his life as he was appreciated and he didn’t have any regrets on not winning the award then.
Today’s song is sung by Hemlata and written by Qamar Jalalabadi. Music is composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.
Let us now enjoy the song …
Note *** (there are some parts of the old songs of Hindi movies used in this song of which the lyrics were already available on the blog and I have copied the respective ‘antaras/song’ from the blog and reproduced here, instead of noting down the lyrics again)
