“Kailashpati” (1962) was a B grade mythological movie which was an Alice Pictures production. It was produced and directed by Dhirubhai Desai. The movie had Sumitra Devi, Mahesh kumar Desai, Jeevan, Niranjan Sharma, Padma Rani, Premlata, Paul Sharma, Abhimanyu Sharma, Bhoj Kumar, Polson, Laxmi Kant Bagla, Champak Lala, Darshan Kumar, Dushyant, Nitin Kumar, S.P.Kalla, Deepak Kumar, Prakash Bagla, Indira Bansal etc in it.
Avinash Vyas, whose bith anniversary falls today (11 july) was the music director of this movie. On this occasion, here is a song from “Kailashpati” (1962). The song is written by Madan and it is sung by Lata. the song is picturised on Sumitra Devi, Polson, and Mahesh Kumar Desai.

I remember watching this movie on Bombay Doordarshan when every Saturday night, they used to show a regional movie. I have seen many old (would say vintage) Marathi movies also. Is this Mahesh Kumar Desai same as Manhar Desai who has acted in many Hindi movies, the famous being Madhosh with Meena Kumari, Meri yaad mein tum na aansoo bahana……song. If not same, are they related?

No, they are not brothers. Manhar grew up in Ahmedabad, the actor’s real name was Malcolm Desai. While Mahesh was from Valsad same place from Nirupa Roy and Morarji Desai birth place.
Mahesh mostly work with religious themes and made very few films.
Remember Manish Kumar from Saraswatichandra (1968)?
He did only one film.
You see, In Gujarat, to use the words like Kumar, Lal, Das, Nath, Chandra, Rai, Bhai etc..after the first name is just to enhance the (first) name. These are not the last names in Gujarat.
