Posted on: July 13, 2012

“Chaandni Raat” (1949), a Tajmahal Pictures production movie, was directed by M Ehsaan. The movie had Shyam, Naseem Bano, David Abraham, Ulhas, Cuckoo, Jillo, Parveen, Noor Jehan, Sayeeda Khan etc in it.

Here is a nice song from this movie. It is sung by Shamshad Begam. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naushad.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.

Song-Aankh mili dil chala gaya (Chandni Raat)(1949) Singer-Shamshad Begam, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad

Lyrics (Provided by Atif M)

ho o o o o
aankh mili dil chala gaya
aankh mili dil chala gaya
koyi pyaar ki duniya basa gaya
aankh mili dil chala gaya

woh chaandni rut
woh mast pawan
ho o o
o o o
woh chaandni rut
woh mast pawan
ho o o
jaaga thha jahaan soya hua mann
jaaga thha jahaan soya hua mann
phir chaliye waheen
phir chaliye waheen
phir chaliye waheen
een een een
phir chaliye waheen
een een een
ho o o
kehti hai yehi
ab dil ki lagan
kehti hai yehi
ab dil ki lagan
kaun yeh mujh mein sama gaya
mere nainon ki nindiya chura gaya
aankh mili dil chala gaya
aankh mili dil chala gaya

ho o o o
kyun aaj umangen naach utheen
ho naach utheen
ho o o
kyun aaj umangen naach utheen
ho naach utheen
armaanon ki duniya jhoom gayi
armaanon ki duniya jhoom gayi
chupke se na jaane kis ki nazar
chupke se na jaane kis ki nazar
aa kar mera daaman choom gayi
aa kar mera daaman choom gayi
kaun yeh jadoo jaga gaya
mujhe loot ke apna bana gaya
aankh mili dil chala gaya

Yesterday night I was travelling from Ahmedababd to Anand in GSRTC Bus, and here one Mr.K.Shah was carrying a radio and playing old songs on it. It was already around 11:00 pm when the bus left for Anand, so i thought it was either VVB or AIR(Urdu Service), but as it continued beyond 11:30 and all the songs playing without disturbance made me curious to see what it was.
It was a transistor with ‘memory card’ facility and all songs that were going on were the choice of Mr. Shah (of a small place UttarSanda near Nadiad). And what a ‘playlist’ it was !!
all of us, the few passenger including the conductor and driver of the bus, were enjoying these gems from that golden period.
it was raining outside and the music on …
We all enjoyed this journey 🙂

This song was one of the other gems of that golden period. I immediately remember to have listen this on VVB recently…
Beautiful song !!
