Murli bajaayee pyaare poonam ke chaand ne

Posted on: July 29, 2012

Today (29th july) is the death anniversary of Sudhir Phadke (25 july 1919- 29 july 2002). He got the opportunity to compose in very few Hindi movies, but he has left an indelible mark in the annals of Hindi movie music. Who can forget the immortal song Jyoti kalash chhalke from “Bhaabhi Ki Choodiyaan”. Another timeless classic, viz. Din hai suhaana aaj pahli taarikh hai is also his creation.

On this occasion, here is a lesser known Sudhir Phadke composition from an obscure movie called “Sajni” (1956). The song is sung by Lata. The lyricist is Pt Narendra Sharma. Like in the case of the above mentioned song of “Bhaabhi Ki Choodiyaan” (1961), this song too has lyrics in textbook Hindi. Only the audio of this song is available so it is difficult to guess about the picturisation, but I guess from the lyrics that this song is a lullaby song. This movie had Sulochana, Anoop Kumar, Sapru, Gope, Krishna Kumari, Maruti, Nimbalkar, Lalita Pawar etc in it. From the starcast, it appears that the song was picturised pn Sulochana, Krishna Kumari, or Lalila Pawar (difficult to imagine though), or on some other lady. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.

Song-Murli bajaayee pyaare poonam ke chaand ne (Sajni) (1956) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Pt Narendra Sharma, MD-Sudhir Phadke

Lyrics

Nindiya bulaane waali
sapne dikhaane waali
nindiya bulaane waali
sapne dikhaane waali
murli bujaayee pyaare
poonam ki chaand ne
murli bujaayee pyaare
poonam ki chaand ne
soja soja naunihaal
mere anchla ke laal
soja soja naunihaal
mere anchla ke laal
tujhe dekh mere baal
meri ankhiyaan nihaal
lagn lagaayi pyaare
poonam ke chaand ne
murli bujaayee pyaare
poonam ke chaand ne
poonam ke chaand ne
poonam ke chaand ne
murli bujaayee pyaare
poonam ke chaand ne

liye kirnon ki dori
aayi chaandni kishori
liye kirnon ki dori
aayi chaandni kishori
madhuras mein gori gaaye
meethhi meethhi lori
rajni sajaaayee
rajni sajaaayee pyaare poonam ki chaand ne
poonam ke chaand ne
poonam ke chaand ne
murli bujaayee pyaare
poonam ke chaand ne

mere maun sarowar
mere piya ki dharohar
mere maun sarowar
mere piya ki dharohar
praan waaroon main
nihaaroon tera mukhda manohar
preet jagaayee pyaare
preet jagaayee pyaare
poonam ke chaand ne
nindiya bulaane waali
sapne dikhaane waali
murli bujaayee pyaare
poonam ke chaand ne

Sudhir Phadke was a legend in Marathi films and Music world.
He had combined with G.D.Madgulkar(lyricist) and Raja Paranjape(Director/actor) and these 3 people together ruled over Marathi minds in the 50s and 60s.
Phadke’s rendition of Geet Ramayan(written by G.D.Madgulkar) all over the country and his successful obsession of making a film on Savarkar ,has carved a permanant place in Maharashtra’s mind.
He gave music to 22 Hindi films and made 152 songs.
In marathi,he gave music to 84 films and made 555 songs,in addition to Bhavgeet,Bhajan etc.

Very much bhajan style.
Never heard…but very sweet…for Janamastami festivals.
