Over one thousand duets have been discussed in the blog. The most prolific team of duet singers in the blog (as well as in Hindi movies) must be Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. As many as 256 Rafi-Asha Bhonsle duets have been discussed in the blog. These 256 Rafi -Asha Bhonsle duet are composed by as many as 44 music directors.
The music director, who has utilised this pair the most is, unsurprisingly, O P Nayyar. As many as 50 O P Nayyar compositons in the blog (out of 275 O P Nayyar compositions) have been Rafi Asha Bhonsle duets. Overall, O P Nayyar has used Rafi’s voice 121 times and Asha Bhonsle’s voice 142 times in the 275 compositions in the blog. This shows that Rafi and Asha Bhonsle were the main singers for O P Nayyar.
Here is another Rafi-Asha Bhonsle duet composed by O P Nayyar. This song is from “Bhaagam Bhaag” (1956).
This song is picturised on Kishore Kumar and Shashikala. Yes, this song is one of those occasions where Kishore Kumar has lip synced in a voice other than his own. Towards the end of the song, they are joined by Bhagwan and Smriti Biswas too. So in effect, both Rafi and Asha Bhonsle give playback for two actors each in this song.
