Wo saadgee kahen ise deewaangee kahen

on:There have been two Hindi movies called “Shama” and there are many people including “experts” who get mixed up in this confusion. There movies were “Shama” (1946) and “Shama” (1961). The confusion is compounded by the fact that the music directors of these movies were Ghulam Haider and Ghulam Mohammad respectively and there are people who think that the two were the same person. In fact I once watched a podcast about old songs where the podcaster very knowledgeably told the audience that Ghulam Haider, who composed the music of “Shaheed” (1948) later composed the music of “Pakeezah” (1972).
To make it clear, Ghulam Haider migrated to Pakistan after Partition and his last Hindi movie as a music director came in 1949, which was “Kaneej” (1949). Ghulam Mohammad, who was an entirely different person was initially the assistant to Naushad and subsequently he became a full fledged music director in 1948 and he had a two decades long career in Hindi movies. His last movie was “Paakeezah” (1972) which was released after his death.
“Shama” (1961), not to be confused with “Shama” (1946) was a Tasveeristan production. It was directed by Lekhraj Bhakri. It had Vijay Dutt, Nimmi, Suraiyya, Kumud Tripathi, Kumar, Kammo, Tarun Bose, Mumtaz Begum, Tuntun, Leela Misra, Renu Maker etc in it.
As many as eight songs from “Shama” (1961) has been discussed in the blog. Here is the ninth song. This song is sung by Rafi and it is picturised on Vijay Dutt and Nimmi.
Kaifi Azmi is the lyricist.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)
wo saadgi kahen isse
deewaangi kahen
wo saadgi kahen isse
deewaangi kahen
unka badha jo haath
yahaan dil luta diya
unka badha jo haath
yahaan dil luta diya
pehle pahal ke dard ki
lazzat na poochhiye
pehle pahal ke dard ki
lazzat na poochhiye
lazzat na poochhiye
uthhi jo dil mein hoonk to
main muskura diya
uthhi jo dil mein hoonk to
main muskura diya
unka badha jo haath
yahaan dil luta diya
unka badha jo haath
yahaan dil luta diya
ye kaun sochta hai ke
sajdaa kubool ho o
ye kaun sochta hai ke
sajdaa kubool ho
sajdaa kubool ho
ye kaun dekhta hai kahaan
sar jhukaa diya
ye kaun dekhta hai kahaan
sar jhukaa diya
unka badha jo haath
yahaan dil luta diya
unka badha jo haath
yahaan dil luta diya
aanchal ki ot ho ki na ho
ab naseeb mein
aanchal ki ot ho ki na ho
ab naseeb mein
ab naseeb mein
maine charag aaj hawaa
mein jalaa diya
maine charag aaj hawaa
mein jalaa diya
unka badha jo haath
yahaan dil luta diya
unka badha jo haath
yahaan dil luta diya
wo saadgi kahen isse
deewaangi kahen
wo saadgi kahen isse
deewaangi kahen
unka badha jo haath
yahaan dil luta diya
unka badha jo haath
yahaan dil luta diya

This song has borrowed the rhythm patterns from this two songs—both by Naushad.
(1) Maan mera ehsaan arre nadaan ke maine tujhse kiyaa hai pyaar (Aan-1952) and
(2) na main bhagwan hoon na mein setan hoon arre duniya jo chaahe samjhe main to insaan hoon (Mother India-1957)
