Jeevan mein tu darna nahin
Posted on: September 25, 2012
Today (25 september) is the birthday anniversary of Feroz Khan (25 september 1939- 27 April 2009). Once he got established in Hindi movie industry, he turned producer and director and he would make movies inspired from Western movies, e.g. those featuring Clint Eastwood.
But the first “Western” inspired movie of Feroz Khan was not produced by him. This movie, called “Khote Sikkey” (1974) was very much a movie on the lines of “For a Few Dollars More” and other such movies of that genre. “Khote Sikkey” (1974) was produced by N D Kothari and directed by Narendra Bedi. The movie had Feroz Khan, Rehana, Ajit, Danny, Ranjeet, Alka, Narendranath, Paintal, Sultan, Sudhir, V Gopal, Leela Misra, Satyen Kappu, Kamal Kapoor, Alankar Joshi etc in it.
Needless to say that Feroz Khan plays Clint Eastwood in this movie.
Clint Eastwood plays a man with no name and he hardly opens his mouth. He is only after the bounty that he gets from catching the baddies. But but his Hindi movie inspiration obviously cannot do without adding elements like revenge (for the death of his father), rescuing villagers, romancing with the heroine, singing songs etc.
Here is a song from “Khote Sikkey” (1974). This song in fact is perhaps the most well known song from this movie. The tune of the song is unabashedly lifted from the very well known Western tune. Lyrics have been added to the tune by Majrooh Sultanpuri and these lyrics, which go well with the tune have been rendered superbly by Kishore Kumar. So much so that this song has gone on to become an inspirational song par excellence. “Jeewan mein tu darna nahin..”- who can disagree with this message.
I have been hearing this song for nearly four decades without being aware of the details of this song. It is only recently that I came to know that this song was from “Khote Sikkey” (1974).

Lyrics(Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)
Jeevan mein
tu darna nahin
sar neecha
kabhi karna nahin
himmat waale ko
marna nahin
marna nahin,
marna nahin,
marna nahin
jeevan mein tu darna nahin
sar neecha kabhi karna nahin
himmat waale ko
marna nahin,
marna nahin ,
marna nahin,
marna nahin
tu hai saathi apna
koi dooja nahin tera
apni har mushkil mein
tu akela hi muskura
jag mein tu
sabse bada hai,
ru ru
dil chhota
karna nahin,
karna nahin,
karna nahin,
karna nahin
hoo
wow wow wow
hoo
wow wow wow
jeena hai to pyaare
tu ladna zindagi se
aandhi ho ya toofaan
na dabna tu kisi se
jag mein tu
aage hi badhna,
ru ru
peeche kadam
dharna nahin
dharna nahin,
dharna nahin,
dharna nahin
jeevan mein tu darna nahin,
ru ru ru
sar neeche kabhi karna nahin
ru ru ru ru ru
himmatwaale ko
marna nahin,
marna nahin
marna nahin,
marna nahin
marna nahin

I used to LOVE this song! Haven’t heard it in ages – lovely to hear it now.
Btw, in the ToI today, in the Tributes section, there is a pic of Feroz Khan, saying Birthday Remembrance…Fondly remembered by Azam, Nusrath and Rahil.
