Baithhe hain kyaa uss ke paas

Posted on: November 10, 2012

“Jewel Thief” (1967) was a Navketan Production movie. It was directed by Vijay Anand. The movie had Dev Anand, Dev Anand, Ashok Kumar, Vyjayanthimala, Tanuja, Faryal, Nazir Hussain, Sapru, Helen, Anju Mahendru, Pratima Devi, Sachin etc in it.

As many as six songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the seventh song from this movie.

This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. It is picturised as a cabarat song on Helen and another dancer whom I am not able to identify. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.

Majrooh sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

lalalalalala

lalalalalalala

babababu

aaine ki nazar mein
o ho ho
aisi masti kahaan hai
o ho ho
masti meri nazar ki
aaaa
itni sachhi kahan hai
ae ae
aaine ki nazar mein
aisi masti kahaan hai
masti meri nazar ki
itni sachhi kahan hai
zuzuzuzu
baithe hain kya uss ke paas
lalala
aaina mujh sa nahi
lalalala
meri taraf dekhiye
lalala lalalala

Ooo

yoon hi aahen bhare kya

ye lab ham kyun na chhoo le
yoon hi aahen bhare kya
ham se bhi khoobsoorat
tum ho
ham bhi kare kya
ham bhi kare kya
zuzuzuzu
baithe hain kya uss ke paas
lalala
aaina mujh sa nahin
lalalala
meri taraf dekhiye
lalala lalalala

bababab bauba
o ho ho
o ho ho
o ho ho
o ho ho
arrae
beeti hai raat kitni
o ho ho
ye sab kuchh bhul jaaye
o ho ho
jalti shamme bujha ke
aaa
aao ham dil jalaaye
beeti hai raat kitni
ye sab kuchh bhul jaayen
jalti shamme bujha ke
aao ham dil jalaayen
zuzuzuzu
baithe hain kya uss ke paas
lalalalalala
aaina mujh sa nahin
lalalala
meri taraf dekhiye
lalala lalalala
lalallalal alalalal
meri taraf dekhiye

Wow! This is quintessential S D Burman! Every song from ‘Jewel Thief’ is unforgettable.I may be wrong, but the other girl with Helen may be Laxmi Chhaya. Not sure though…………..

Like

No I think it is not Laxmi Chhaya,
Thsi dancer used to be a junior artiste cum dancer, who appeared in many dance and song sequences as one of the main dancers alongwith the heroine.
Most probably,She is not credited with any names,in any movies. Please correct me if I am wrong

Excellent dance by Helen. She rocks the feathers on her .. errr… backside 🙂

The other dancer in the above song is probably Anju Mahendru .This should be one of her earliest movies.

Like

No.

Anju is there in the movie, but not in this song.

She is Fariyal, Half Syrian and half Indian Actress of late 60’s

No Sir, with due respect you I beg to differ, It is not Faryal, She is much more a nimble footed and good looking dancer.Further she does have a different set of body structure.Facially also this dancer doesn`t resembles Faryal

Let everyone indulge. We can throw every name from Cuckoo to Leena Das! 😉 hehe! jk!

What i cant figure out is, if there are 2 singers or if they have super imposed one voice on top of the other. Lalalala and O Ho Ho by unidentified actress overlaps Asha’s singing for Helen. If thats indeed the case, I m not aware of other such examples from those years. Of course, the LP lists only one singer.

It is Faryal, according to the Wikipedia entry for Jewel Thief and for Faryal’s filmography.

Like

It is not Faryal. As PC has mentioned above, Faryal is there in the movie and has a cabaret dance to herself (without a song – only music).
