The Voice Of Mukesh #8
—————————-
It is well known that the film that really launched the career of Mukesh was the 1945 film ‘Pehli Nazar’. And in this film, the most enduring sound has been the song “Dil Jalta Hai To Jalne De”, sung by Mukesh. Apart from this timeless and iconic song, Mukesh has sung three more song in this film. One more solo song, and two duets with Naseem Akhtar. The solo song is “Tai Kar Ke Badi Door Se Purpech Dagariyaa”, a light hearted song of a young heart in search of love. The duet is the title song “Laga Pehli Nazar Ka Teer”. These three songs are now already present on this blog.
And today, we present the second Mukesh – Naseem Akhtar duet, a romantic tete-a-tete between two young lovers, both expressing an emotion of helplessness against rising excitements and passions of youth. Given the star cast of the film, I am very certain that the male person in picturization must be Motilal. Regarding the female voice, it could either be Veena or Munawwar Sultana on the screen.
‘Pehli Nazar’ is a film produced and directed by Mazhar Khan, under the banner of Mazhar Arts Productions. The star cast includes Motilal, Veena, Munawwar Sultana, B Pendaarkar, Nemo, Bibbo, Balakram, Budho Advani, Cuckoo, Nafis Begum, Sultan Aalam, Parveen, Bimla, Mughal, Leela Pawar, Lalita, Subhashini etc. The film has a total of 10 songs. The lyrics are all penned by Dr. Safdar ‘Aah’ Sitapuri, and the memorable music is from the baton of Anil Biswas.
This was the fifth year of Mukesh’s film career. Including this song, Mukesh had so far sung thirteen film songs. With the launch of this film, and the runaway success of “Dil Jalta Hai. . .”, there was now no looking back for Mukesh. And so, with the exception of one more song (from the film ‘Prabhu Ka Ghar’, 1945), we come to the close of the fifth year of Mukesh in the film industry.
A rare and wonderful duet by Mukesh and Naseem Akhtar that is being posted first time online today. Enjoy.
jawaani ye bharpoor dilkash adaayen
bataao tumhi kaise dil ko bachaayen
Ah, this glamour, this enticing youth at its peak
And the graceful panache that allures the heart
Oh say, tell me how can I protect my heart
na bakhshegaa koi gunaah e mohabbat
badi pur-khatar hai ye raah e mohabbat
churaa le na tumko kisi ki nigaahen
And these misadventures of first love
There is no forgiveness for them
The path of love is strewn with many perils
Oh, keep yourself out of harm’s way
May no other young eyes steal you away
mitaao bade shauk se tum mitaao
magar pehle ik baat hum ko bataao
wafaa bhi karoge agar tumko chaahen
With pleasure and with satisfied preference
Go ahead, decimate me (in love)
Oh but before, please answer me this
Would you also love me too
If I love you. . .
