“Sohni Mahiwal” (1958) was a Chaudhary Art Production movie. It was directed by Raja Nawathe. The movie had Bharat Bhushan, Nimmi, Kumar, Achla Sachdev, Mukri, Lotan, Chand Burque, Om Prakash etc in it.
Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the fourt song from this movie. This song is sung by Rafi. The song is picturised on Bharat Bhushan and Nimmi. Watching Nimmi dancing joyously makes one rub his eyes in disbelief for people who have never seen Nimmi even smiling let alone dancing in Hindi movies 🙂
We know about Emperor Nero fiddling while Rome burnt. Here we find a home begin to burn as Bharat Bhushan’s fiddling comes to an end. He was not singing “Deepak” raag by mistake, I hope. Not that it matters in the picturisation as the house goes up into flames with many side actors and Bharat Bhushan running towrads the burning house like Hindi movie policemen arriving at a site after the deed is done. 🙂
The video shows only one stanza, so we have no idea what happens in the picturisation of the earlier stanzas. We have the full audio of the song to listen to though, and it is quite a hummable song.
