Ghazab ka hai din socho zara

Our parents are our first friends. They were the first ones who understood that we are hungry or upset or just bored without our even speaking (of course we would cry very very loudly at all those points but still). But before we came in and wreaked havoc in their lives, the best families are the ones where they were each other’s best friends.

I come from one such family. Despite having an arranged marriage they became friends in their marriage. When I hear the stories of their pre-children period it often feels likes scenes out of movies where the hero and heroine are in their blissful period before the interval. A beautiful song situation.

I still often catch my parents in such exchanges and it brings me immense happiness when I see them. To see that, despite two young adult children who have them at their wit’s end every day, they still manage to be there for each other. It is their care and understanding for each other that gives me my confidence that all will be well.

Today (20 may 2013) is their 25th wedding anniversary, and I see them both trying to make the day surprising and special for reach other I cannot help but smile. I remember a story my mom told me, though I don’t think I have all the details right. Apparently, during the “meet the girl” session where they first met, dad asked mom whether she can sing and she had said no. And then after the wedding day, while going home, she was softly humming a song and he was surprised by the fact that she sang so beautifully. It was then she told him that she was trained in Carnatic classical music, a style my dad loves.

He was surprised then and they continue to surprise each other since. I hope that they continue smiling with and for each other forever and ever. Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad, This song today is for you. 🙂

Song-Ghazab ka hai din socho zara (Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak)(1988) Singers-Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Anand Milind

Lyrics

Ghazab ka hai din
socho zara,
ye deewaanapan
dekho zara
tum ho akele,
hum bhi akele
maza aa rahaa hai
kasam se
kasam se

ghazab ka hai din
socho zara,
ye deewaanapan
dekho zara
tum ho akele,
hum bhi akele
maza aa rahaa hai
kasam se
kasam se

dekh lo
hum ko kareeb se
aaj hum
miley hain naseeb se
O o o
dekh lo
hum ko kareeb se
aaj hum
miley hain naseeb se
ye pal phir kahaan
aur ye manzil phir kahaan
ho o
ghazab ka hai din
socho zara,
ye deewaanapan
dekho zara
tum ho akele,
hum bhi akele,.
maza aa rahaa hai
kasam se
kasam se

kyaa kahoon
mera jo haal hai
raat din
tumhaara khayaal hai
o o o
kyaa kahoon
mera jo haal hai
raat din
tumhaara khayaal hai
phir bhi jaana-e-jaan,
main kahaan aur tum kahaan

ho o
ghazab ka hai din
socho zara,
ye deewaanapan
dekho zara
tum ho akele,
hum bhi akele,.
maza aa rahaa hai
kasam se
kasam se

Hi Peevesie,

Wonderful read and thanks so much for sharing. And such a lovely song to go along with it.

What you write about parents, is so true – an experience that I can relate to, oh so well.

Parents are the stardust that makes us fly.

Peevesie’s mom and dad,
A thousand congratulations for this glorious milestone. And best wishes for the next 25.

Cheers and best regards
Sudhir

Peevesie’s mom and dad,

Best wishes on your 25th Wedding Anniversary.

By the way,This song reminds me of My sister-in-Law, Jyothi who sang this song to my younger brother, Navin(in one of their friend`s family function), before they got married. Navin always make fun of Jyothi(Whenever she is angry with Navin)by singing this song to her.
