Yesterday, I had posted the song “Tumhen Dil Se Jaane Nahin Denge Hum” from the 1945 film ‘Sanyaasi’. The song came at the request of Sikander Esmail Sb who currently resides in the USA. Yesterday morning Atul ji had
forwarded to me an email from Sikander Sb, wherein he has requested for three songs from the 1940s that he is trying to locate. There are some wonderful memories of some departed friends associated with these songs.
The second song that Sikander Sb has requested, comes from the 1946 film, ‘Qeemat’. The film is from the banner of Kardar Productions, directed by Nazeer Ajmeri. The pedigree of this song is top quality. The words are from the pen of Majrooh Sb, the music is from the baton of Naushad Sb and the expressive singing voice is of Naseem Akhtar. This film incidentally, is also possibly the first or the second Hindi film that Majrooh Sb wrote for. He made his debut in the Hindi films in 1946, and there are two films listed for him in 1946 – this one and ‘Shahjehaan’. So this song is one of the very earliest songs written by him.
The beauty of the verses is just tremendous. There is such a poetic quality to these verses, that the listener will simply be taken in by the words themselves. The lines are just beautiful.

phool se prem rachaaye
Such a poignant turn of phrase, such an inspired portrayal of the relationship between the dew drops and flowers.
This song is rare, in that I could not locate it online, and have uploaded it from my collection. The rendition by Naseem Akhtar simply shakes up the heart. Just listen to the sound of “Mann Pagle. . . Sapan Dikhaaye”. Stirring and superb.
