“”Rattan”(1944) was produced by Karan Dewan and directed by M Sadiq. The movie had Karan Dewan, Swarnlata, Amir Bano, Basant Kumar, Chanda, Gulab, Manju, Badri Prasad, Vasti etc in it.
This movie is today known for its iconic songs that changed the face of Hindi movie music. Till then, Hindi movie music tended to be classical music based. In “Rattan” (1944), the music was based on folk music and that enabled oldinary folks to identify with the songs of the movie as they had never done before.
The movie itself had quite a progressive storyline, as I have discovered from its review by Dustedoff. That, plus the fantastic music of this movie ensured that this movie became one of the biggest grossers of those days.
