The Voice of Mukesh #42
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Coming now to the end of the year 1949, as far as songs of Mukesh are concerned. This is the 30th song that Mukesh had rendered in this year.
This film is ‘Thhes’ from the banner of Oriental Pictures, Bombay. The film is directed by Kidar Sharma, who has also written the lyrics for this film. The music is created by Snehal Bhatkar. Interestingly, out of the 8 songs in this film, 6 have the voice of Mukesh, either as a solo singer or sharing a duet. With this song, all these six songs from this film are now posted here on this blog. The remaining two songs, a solo by Rajkumari and a duet by Rajkumari and Shamshad Begum, are waiting to make an appearance here.
This song is a solo by Mukesh. It is an entreaty directed towards God – a very strongly worded comment on His heartlessness, and His lack of concern for His people. Reading and listening to the verses of such songs, one is bound to be staggered by the limitlessness of the reach of a poet’s imagination. Just by the very understanding of what God is, there is no one better or superior to Him and yet, in the poet’s imagination, he has conjured the inquiry – what would it be like, if the God also had a God above Him. The very concept is staggering for the mind. And if we give in to this query, then where will that take us? On an endless labyrinth of possibilities that simply defy any normal comprehension. It is a concept that suddenly takes away the very foundations of where faith is.
Ah, the infinite license of the poetic mind. And what a contradiction in terms such words can create, simply from the basic heuristics. By our understanding, God is one who is the primal cause of everything that exists. Now does that includes our thoughts and imaginations also. By the fundamentals, the answer is yes, for the thoughts and imaginations have to be bound to the creation they are contained in. They are a product of a mind and intellect that is part of the creation. Then how come this mind and intellect can imagine things that are not possible in the creation, the way we understand it. Simply boggles the mind.
Leaving aside this flabbergasting question for now. Let us close the year 1949 for Mukesh songs. As communicated earlier, there are now two songs that are still pending from his career till this year. One is from 1947, and the second from 1948, and both songs are almost within reach. One of them, from the film ‘Jeene Do’ (1948) is available online, but only about half the length. And the second from the film ‘Laakhon Mein Ek’ (1947) is available with another friend, who has not yet made up his mind to share it online. Anyway, I am trying other sources also. And yes, with the next post we will continue to explore the missing and rare songs of Mukesh rendered in the year 1950. For now, listen to this closing song for the year 1949.
Song-Bhagwaan jo tera bhi bhagwaan koi hota (Thhes)(1949) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Kidar Sharma, MD-Snehal Bhatkar
Lyrics
bhagwan jo tera bhi bhagwan koi hota
bhagwan jo tera bhi bhagwan koi hota
hum dekhte phir kyunkar
aaraam se tu sota
aaraam se tu sota
bhagwan jo tera bhi bhagwan koi hota
dil thhaame huye tera har aah ke aanchal ko
har aah ke aanchal ko
armaanon ke mele mein bachchon ki tareh khotaa
bachchon ki tareh khotaa
bhagwan jo tera bhi bhagwan koi hota
kya jaane mazaa dard ka bedard bhalaa tu
bedard bhalaa tu
dil hota tere paas to phir dard bhi hota
phir dard bhi hota
bhagwan jo tera bhi bhagwan koi hota
hum dekhte phir kyunkar aaraam se tu sota
aaraam se tu sota
bhagwan jo tera bhi bhagwan koi hota
