Today (7 november 2013) is the birthday of Kamal Haasan. He turns 59 today. He has been a superstar in south Indian films since the 70s.
He started out as a child actor. Went on to become an assistant to various directors in south Indian films and doing bit roles and supporting roles till 1974 when K. Balachander gave him his first serious role in Avval Orru Thodar kathai (meaning “she is a short story” which was later remade in hindi (Jeevan Dhara (1982) Bengali etc. But this was a heroine centric movie. In 1977 he was also seen in a blink and you miss in the Rajesh Khanna- Mumtaz movie “Aaina”. His formal debut in Hindi was in 1981 “Ek Duje Ke Liye”. This movie was a success such that no south Indian actor had seen till then.
Subsequently he was seen regularly in Hindi. ‘82 to ‘85 saw around 15 of his Hindi films. Of these Barkha Roy (Reena Roy’s sister) Productions “Sanam Teri Kasam“was also notable. It showcased Kamal Haasan’s dancing abilities and action skills especially his motor cycling. This movie had many fans in my high school classmates.
One song from this movie was discussed in April 2012 . The song under discussion is an introduction song…. Meaning Kamal is introduced in the movie with this song.
It is sung by Kishore Kumar. The song is written by Gulshan Bawra and music is by R. D. Burman of course. Suresh Bhatt was the choreographer.
